HOLY CRAP! We drafted who???

A. Ellison pissed me off. There were a few other DTs on the board I wanted before him.

Wasn't Corvey Irvin a 3rd rounder? "What?" He was 5th to 7th on most boards.

Ditto on Ellison, again it's like they have a dart board in the war room after the first round. We generally do well in the first, but flounder as high as the second.

Irvin, I was only upset about the person not the position. I've been on the DT bandwagon for 3 DRAFTS now... When we drafted Irvin I was like, 'NOW we decide to take a DT...and a reach at that'.

Stewy

I was all, "Why the f**k are we drafting a fake news anchor when we just got a RB?"

i'm ok with it now.

I know this is about who you were pissed about and it turned out ok, and I know it's too early, but i was absolutely furious with the Clausen and Armanti picks. I have never been a fan of Clausen Kool-aid, and the armanti pick seemed like a stretch and like we gave up waaaaaaaaaay too much for.

Totally called Stewart and T.Davis. Both picks were long-shots before the draft and people were calling me crazy.

Everyone is going to laugh at this one, but I'm going to man up and eat some serious crow. (Maybe somebody already stated this draft pick, I haven't read all of the posts)

I was angry when the Panthers picked up DeAngelo. Considering that Fox was a ground and pound guy and we needed to replace Stephen Davis, I was thinking it would be best if the Panthers picked up LenDale White.:hat:

Just from seeing all of White's highlights with Reggie Bush, I was completely convinced this was a no brainer. So when the Panthers selected D-Lo, I was thinking "Who in the world is this!?!" Then they showed his size and the college team he played for, and I once again found myself thinking "Why did they get this Barry Sanders wannabe when they could have had a powerful, fast RB with White?"

And now here we are, forty-two hundred rushing yards (averaging 5 yards a carry) and over 30 touchdowns later, and I couldn't be more relieved that I was very wrong. Plus, we got a true powerful back in Stewart a couple of years later.

A lot of people thought that.

Plus there was all the pre-draft news that we told White not to run the 40 at his pro day and Hurney and Fox had supposedly taken White and Darnell Bing to dinner.

I wanted Williams, but half expected White.

Rashard Anderson.

For the record, like others I hated the Clausen pick because I was fine with Matt Moore and I thought it cost us a chance at a top receiver.

After we drafted Brandon LaFell, I became okay with it.

After the season was over, I went back to not liking it :(

Damian Williams and Golden Tate went between Clausen and LaFell being selected.

If you had to go back, would you have taken one of them over LaFell? I was hoping for Tate at first, but I like the LaFell pick and despite as bad as Clausen has been, I guess I at least like the "intent" of picking him. I don't know. I prefer to look at it more as, "This is what we have," now more than anything else

Armanti we paid a lot to get, but NE DID take a WR with the very next pick. There very well could have been a chance that he wouldn't have been there for the team's next pick.

Jury's still out for me, honestly.

If I recall correctly, Tate never even cracked the starting lineup. Williams? I'd have to look him up.

LaFell actually looked like he was coming along nicely by year's end. Hoping that continues.

    • A winning record would be nice, but I still have us winning around the 6 to 8 game mark. Realistically we should beat the Jets and Saints, that gets us to 5 wins. After that, we have to face a lot of potential play off teams and our divisional opponents. I think we’ll win 1 or 2 of those games to take us to 6 or 7 wins, perhaps 8 wins if we can spring a further surprise.  Is that enough progress for head coach and QB? I’m not sure, it will depend on performances and output. That said, it’s nice to be back in a position where we are thinking about the play offs.
    • I would tend to agree about not falling into the trap and paying a below average QB, but sometimes situations can “force” a team to pay that QB. For example, if we play ourselves into a 9-8 like record, then what options will we have in the draft? Or do we avoid the draft and trade for or sign someone in free agency?  I’m not convinced by the 2026 QB draft class. There’s some intriguing prospects but no one that really screams “draft me”. I’m not sure we’ve got anyone really that stands out as a trade candidate or free agent signing. So although we might not want to commit a big money contract to Young, him playing well and showing progress might force the team’s hand.
    • Realistically we would be looking at no more than a mid round pick for Dowdle or Chuba. Are we really that desperate for a mid round pick? Not really. I would much prefer us utilise the two RBs in a 1-2 punch similar to how we used D-Will and Stewart. After all, Bryce is not Drew Brees. He won’t throw for 300+ yards and carry the team consistently as a passer. So having a strong running game with a 1-2 punch will be beneficial to him, and it will also be beneficial to the RBs because we can spell them and not overwork them.
