How many wins did the 'Youth Movement' cost?

We always say hindsight is 20/20, but as bad as the cliche' is we all still love to do it. Let's say Moose, Jake, Hoover, Vincent, Lewis, Diggs etc... were retained one more year to see what they had (Fox over Richardson)--what would our record have been or at least capable of being? This is still considering the injuries to Davis, Otah and Williams assuming the injuries would have occured anyway.

I say we may have been 7-9 or 8-8. I seriously doubt we made the playoffs, BUT this season wouldn't have been as painful as it turned out to be. Still, this was an easy schedule as many saw before the season and turned out to be. I say we would have swept the NFCW and won at least two divisional games. Cincy and the Browns may had been wins too.

Hey, this beats another Clausen or draft pick thread. :D

Flipside question: With us being in a better cap position, having a high draft pick and a new coach, how many wins do we get going forward?

If it turns out to be a lot, and it could, I won't give a flying rip about this past season.

True and I thought of that too. I mean look what happened shortly after the Siefert era. A new staff and a high draft pick turned things around quickly.

As far as the cap, it really doesn't matter becasue it is JR that wants to build through the draft and chooses to stay out of the FA market unless it's for cheap placemarkers. So as long as we aren't in any danger of exceeding the cap (which is unlikely for years now), having the most cap space in the league is only a moral victory.

4-6 more wins maybe ,but still not in playoffs and still not seeing rookies get more playing time

Question

How much playing time did all the cut vets get ?

Most never played again ,were hurt or did not contribute that much to their new team

Most were very short term solutions at best

I don't really know why more people don't realize this, but 2010 was uncapped. We could have purchased the best available players in the league, (Jets, Ravens, Bears) or picked up off waivers some great vets (Seattle) and made the playoffs this year. As far as I'm concerned, the Bears are in the playoffs because of the Panther's vets.

Instead, Richardson cut bait and packed up his gear.

Had we kept the vets and paid for free agents, we could have been in the playoffs.

And that gets us what? One great year? What happens the next year if there's a cap again?

Looking at age and ability, how many of the guys the Panthers cut were actually worth what they were making?

Who cares? The season is over. Lets move on!

That's the point , reflecting on a horrible season and what went wrong. As I mentioned, we could start 10 more Clausen or draft threads. The NFL offseason isn't even here yet and some are acting like it is. Crap, this weekend is just divisional round of the playoffs.

Getting back on topic, here's another thought. If we went somewhere between 6-10 and say 9-7, there would be more room for deal making when the draft does roll around. Trading for the #1 pick is REALLY rich for teams that aren't SOLD on the notion there's a perinnial Pro Bowler/future HOFer sitting there.

Being a top 5 draft team hasn't done some clubs like Detroit very good. Look what we did in the Stewart/Otah razzle dazzle.

    • lol Honestly, it might sound dumb, but I've had this idea in my head of a specific picture I really want to get with him since draft night. Basically I want it to be of the two of us sitting on the floor next to each other with the picture from behind.  Ideally it would have been with us both wearing T-Mac jerseys (and me wearing an Arizona hat that has block A logo on the back of it too), but since they won't have baby versions of those for a bit and that does seem like a waste of money on something he'll grow out of in a few months, I think I'll go with this that I've found on Amazon for like 12 bucks........ I'll get this made with T-Mac's #4 but then my Nephew's first name (which incidentally starts with a T, so I've already joked to my sister that she needs to change his middle name to something with "Mc" or "Mac" in it so i can call him T-Mac lol) Just think that would make for a really cool picture for me to have of him at this age (just over 13 months now), with the two of us wearing our #4's.  It's the type of thing I can absolutely see myself getting it printed out by Shutterfly on one of those canvas like prints to hang on my wall. And seeing as they live in NYC with me in Michigan, not sure the next time I'll see him again as I can't just drive on down the street for a picture when the jersey arrives, so was hoping I'd be able to take advantage of seeing them at the end of the month to get this picture, but it would all be dependent on the jersey (and this custom onesie) being shipped in time.
    • Just wear another jersey and have AI photoshop it lol
    • His piece of the pie is only going to get smaller unless there are serious injuries.  Unless the actual pie becomes that much larger, ie Bryce being Kurt Warner, I don't think there's room for him to breakout.  Just like there's not room for JT Sanders to break out beyond a couple hundred yards receiving and a few TDs. I don't think a lot of people understand the volume that XL got last year.
