These hirings likely preclude us from mcnabb, kolb

Alex Smith has always been so damn inconsistent... but he's never had consistency in his offense, either, so I dunno.

Don't think I want him ultimately but he's an intriguing idea, Mr. Scot.

Not necessarily the first choice I'd make either, but the Panthers might.

Who knows? He might just turn out better then we expect.

(or at least make a half-decent stopgap)

Alex Smith would not be my first choice but at least he would be better than having VY or McNabb

If you guys think Alex Smith would be better than McNabb... I dunno what to say. McNabb is amazing. I like Alex Smith too, the guy has a lot of moxie, a lot of heart. He's the guy that will throw an interception, get hit, and still bounce it off and produce the game winning drive. He just gets intercepted quite a bit lol. He's worth it as a stop gap imo.

Alex Smith had a worse rookie year than Clausen, by nearly any measure. And his sophomore year was semi-respectable. Why would anyone want to sign him over starting Clausen again?

Don't get me wrong, I can understand why you might not want either one of them. But if you're against JC and want Smith I really have to wonder about how much emotion is going on in your decision making process.

I don't want Alex Smith OVER JC ...I want the FO to bring in some FA young QB to give JC some competition...Smith could be that guy

IMO not only is McNabb over-the-hill but he would not fit in with the MO of the team...building through youth

I am not saying sign Smith, and guarantee him the starting job. I am saying sign him and let him compete for the starting job.

In reference to Jimmy, I haven't given up on him, but I am not putting my faith in him either. I want him to succeed, I am just not sure if he can.

Well it not like we have alot of choices. It will have to be a stop gap qb.The first priority is to SURE UP OUR SUPPORTING CAST.Add a starting right guard and add some depth at tackle. Our OC will need to determine what our offense is going to look like west coast or other.I feel there is not an availible franchise qb availible w/o trading our first rd pick.My gut tells me they will go aftera qb with promise that that they feel is coachible.Way to risky to count on Clausen to be that guy.I think Anderson,Alex Smith and Bruce Gradkowski all fill that billet and have a few years under their belt.Given all our needs this will be a multi year process to put humpty dumpty together again.

Alex Smith is probably one of the better free agent options, but isn't near the prospect of trading for Kolb or Orton. Why all of the Kolb haters? Also, Derek Anderson had his only Pro-Bowl season under Chudzinski as his OC... why not try a reunion. I know he has been horrible on the Cardinals but aren't most players in the NFL a product of their system?

Seneca Wallace? He's not going to set the world on fire, but he could operate the offense with Rivera's D, while JC learns how to play in the NFL. Let him hold a clipboard like Rodgers. This is me crossing my fingers that he could be 3/4 the QB that Rodgers is.

Mr. Scot,

I am interested how you feel the qb can be addressed in the short run and long run.It is such an important position in the NFL.
