Vince Young a possibility/opportunity for us perhaps???

I have been a proponent of bringing VY to Carolina because I try to see good in people and believe a change of environment could do wonders. Look at Brayton, though not nearly the headcase, he still had issues. Carolina brought him in and he has been quite productive for us. That being said and knowing our FO... I realize VY coming hear is about 1 chance in 5.

However if Gradkowski is a free agent. Then I would put him at the top of the list. Over Vince Young. This guy is a gamer. The majority of Oakland's wins during the JaMarcus Russell era came from this guy.

Better then the QB we got now.

None of our QBs will ever be as good, entertaining, or relevant as VY. They can study all the film they want, they can sign every autograph after practice, they can be the classiest guys on the planet. We can try to simplify the playbooks and their jobs as much as we want, wont make a difference. They can put gel in their hair to look cool. But none of them will ever win or perform at the level VY does. They just dont have that "it". I cant see any of our QBs getting any interest in a FA market as "starters" outside of Carolina, VY wont have such problems.

As for Vince, I say the same thing about him I said about Luck, why would he want to come here? Why does he need us? Do we really believe no team is gonna get at him that has more going for itself than we do? No good QB wants to come to Carolina. NONE. Zip. Zilch. Zero. None of them want to be associated with such a losing franchise like ours that is the epitome of FAIL at the QB position. We're stuck with the usual boring scrubs we always feature until we get new ownership and have an image overhaul.

I'm not a fan of Vince Young. We'd be better off losing with Clausen next season and getting Andrew Luck with the #1 pick. I feel like it's worth it to throw away a season or two for the chance to draft a franchise QB that could lead us back to the Super Bowl.

If this is the case, I would encourage Panther fans not to go to any games next season or buy any merchandise. If the goal is to tank 2011 in hopes of getting Luck (after he's already made it clear he doesnt want to play for us), Panther fans should just skip the season and do something else. If the object is to throw games, why should fans waste money next season? Save your money, hell JR is! :cornut:

No can deny his physical skills but that is not the only skill set that is needed especially for a QB. As for why would he want to come here? How many teams are going to hire a veteran who has a chance to start? He would have a good chance to do that here.

With that being said, I don't know that he would provide us with a mature veteran who can mentor younger guys. And that is what we will be looking for in a vet.

Hes just another QB with great talent but is a headcase....what VY brings in talent and baggage is a wash with what we have now... we still wont have a QB.

Andrew Luck never said he didn't want to play for the Panthers. He went back to Stanford to get his degree. If you would seriously rather keep spending your money to go watch a mediocre team lead by a mediocre QB fine by me do it. In my opinion it's worth the pain on a few terrible seasons to enjoy being a Super Bowl contender year in and year out. Look at the San Antonio Spurs they tanked a season just to get Tim Duncan and now they've got what 4 NBA Championships with him?

You're new, so I'll clue you in. Don't bother with that one. He's a Falcon troll.

VY would perform much better than the guys we have out there right now. And judging by how quickly our "leader" Beason has lobbied for him, I'd say our guys would believe in him more than they do Clausen or Moore. Right now our QBs are a handicap to their teammates and hold this team back a great deal. Thats a big burden that takes its toll over time.

Exactly....I want to win a title, not have our best case scenario be 9-7 with a first round exit.

You think this has been explored?? I dont. The Panthers are just getting their coaching staff in place. Boys or not - Rivera, Hurney, Chud, our QB coach etc should talk to and meet with VY themselves.

There is one BIG thing that makes sense into looking at VY and that is the prospects of another season with no QB. Or having to trade another future early draft pick, or one of our RB for either Orton or McNabb or Colb (of which I dont think either will be traded by their teams anyway) or bringing back Matt Moore as some are suggesting

Dont get me wrong, I am not saying sign the guy this instant BUT I just hope the Panthers are not just excluding him because of this "character" stuff. THIS TEAM NEEDS A QB THAT CAN WIN GAMES!!!!

And what happens the first time he had a bad game, gets vociferously booed and throws a tantrum? Then do we start worrying about his character?

    • We're in alignment regarding Thielen not being a game changer/breaker for the Panthers. Getting the ball into hands of playmakers like TMac and XL is going to open up things more than it is getting it to Thielen underneath (or letting him go after 50/50 balls 20yds downfield in his mid-30s). However, in a room where the other guys are two second year guys and two rookies, having a reliable vet that they can learn from is just as important as it is for the QB to have as a reliable third option. I can see that being worth $8.5M (just 3%) of the $279.2M cap... especially when looking at what's left out there: https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/free-agents/_/position/wr However, the idea that the team is forcing production to Thielen and leading to losses isn't supported by the data. Targets, not receiving yards, are how you can tell if a player is being "force fed." In the two games mentioned, let's look at the other players available... vs. TB 10 targets - Adam Thielen 9 targets - David Moore 8 targets - Tommy Tremble, Xavier Legette 3 targets - Jonathon Brooks 1 target - Dan Chisena, Feleipe Franks, Stephen Sullivan vs. PHI 11 targets - Adam Thielen 8 targets - Xavier Legette 5 targets - Chuba Hubbard, David Moore 2 targets - Tommy Tremble 1 target - Ja'Tavion Sanders, Deven Thompkins There isn't exactly a bounty of other names to throw the ball to. In those games, AT was one of the top 2 WRs. Diontae had been gone by that point.   So... yea. Agreed that Thielen isn't exactly carrying the team in his mid-30s, but it's undeniable that he was the most reliable target last season that still has quite a bit of value this season. Whether or not that value is reflected in a manner folks think on the contract is going to come down to personal taste. However, the idea that the team was forcing production to AT and that was the reason behind some losses couldn't be further from the truth.
    • I would also add that I think it's more than money.  AT has looked absolutely miserable out there at times, and there was a lot of speculation he would demand to be traded.  Personally, I thought he was a lock to be moved last year.  Maybe his hamstring is the only thing that prevents that from happening. The fact that he's not only willing to come back and play, but excited about it, really bodes well for Bryce.  AT is a veteran and he knows the game.  If he didn't have confidence in Bryce, I guarantee you he wouldn't be in a Panther uniform this year.  I'll take that as a positive.
