For those wanting a new QB

Delhomme will at least restructure. He's flexible that way, he knows he f*cked up against Arizona, he knows he's lucky to be on a team that could care less about QB. He'll be happy to restructure.

The question is, ......would he take a pay cut? It happened with Morgan......

All I know is...as long as he is our QB, we can forget about winning a Super Bowl.

In other words, you don't have any support.

Gantt has been covering the team for years and has inside access that none of us have. He's been the best and most accurate writer on the Panthers beat for a long time. Add in that when he writes a story like this, it's about what he believes will happen based on evidence he's seen from the team itself, not what he thinks should happen based on his own football ideas.

You might want to think about that before you declare what he writes "dumber beyond belief".

Fox is a run, run, run, then pass guy. Del Homm ie is a "Ok coach, I'll do what ever you ask" QB. Fox is a run guy and doesn't want a head strong, can do it all and may say, I want to pass more QB. Its not going to happen.:nopity:

Guys, no offense, but what part of that article suggests to you that the Panthers have even the slightest interest in "competition"?

The only potential competition I see in camp this year is if they let McCown and Moore compete for the backup spot, and even that isn't a lock.

Gantt is probably right here. This year's depth chart is going to look a lot like last year's, and all the hoping in the world isn't going to change that.

(there are changes I'd like to see too, but I try to be realistic about the chances of them happening)

Yep the lineup at QB will be the same

Jake is the first

McCown is second

Moore is third

Basenez's is an emergency 3rd QB at best IMO. If (big if) we finally have a QB coach that teaches fundamentals and can develop QBs, then finding some competition that has the raw talent to start is finally an option. Good competition instead of just another arm to run plays would make all our QBs better. Having an excess of talent at this position would cause this fanbase to meltdown when we have to release one of them though. Heaven forbid we let somebody go that was successful elsewhere in the process of finding the right guy for us.

Delhomme's cap figure being what it is this year, there are only two logical options:

A) restructure, which means extending his contract

B) release him

Which one do you seriously think the Panthers are contemplating?

Yep, he's going to get restructured, along with some cuts. Maybe even one or two that surprises people. Jake will be back and will probably get a 2 or 3 year extension.

What I don't like is if Dwill has another monster season, and I hope he does. He's going to want a Raise and a major one at that. He could end up being one of the higher paid backs in the league after this coming season and I don't know if we can afford that.

That's a big stretch. I seriously doubt the Colts, Chargers, Bengals, Steeler, Saints, Falcons, and a boatload of other teams are wighing their options right now. Honestly, I'd be surprised if any team with an established starter is doing such a thing.

Teams are weighing options only where they feel they have needs. Like it or not, the Panthers don't see QB as a need. Fan opinion doesn't matter.

I meant that if any other team had a QB like Jake. It's my fault I made it sound so general actually.

Steelers were in a similar situation a few years ago with Tommy Maddox. Only they knew when it was time to look at other options

    • I think they are holding back to see what they have in the young guys, but I think it's a near certainty at some point they will bring someone else in. Right now (assuming we keep 5 CBs which is normal), the top 5 IMO are: 1) Jaycee Horn 2) Mike Jackson 3) Chau Smith-Wade 4) Shemar Bartholomew  5) Akayleb Evans   Obviously Jaycee is the alpha in that room and paid as such. Need him to stay healthy and continue to play at a Pro-Bowl level. Mike Jack did pretty well all things considered last year, and they gave him lower-level starter money. Fair deal for both sides.  Smith-Wade showed some promise as a slot CB. I think low-key he's a lock for the team. Different size and skill set than the other CBs. Shemar Bartholomew was the most sought after waiver claim last preseason. Was 5th CB most and inactive most of last year. Had a few defensive and ST snaps. Nothing of note good or bad but too small a sample size to make any judgment. Akayleb Evans was a 2022 4th Rounder for the Vikings. Has started 19 games (including Week 18 for the Panthers) in his career and played in 43. Was pretty good in 2023 before getting injured and falling down the depth chart last year. There's some other guys on the outside looking in, but until they show more in training camp I dont see anyway they make the 53. And only Jaycee, Mike Jack, and Smith-Wade are locks to make this roster IMO.
    • Was just reading the Ask the Old Guy story on the team's website and was shocked to see that only two 2nd Rounders have signed so far, 30 of them haven't. That isn't normal, the Texans really screwed things up for the rest of the league, no other explanation that I can think of for 30 of the 32 picks to still be unsigned at this point.
    • They need to address CB before season starts. This is not going to cut it.
