Cofield, Mebane and Ngata (which you don't ave listed) are at the top of my list. Though they should all be highly sought after, I'm doubtful we have any shot at signing them unless we grossly overpay.

Ngata is the only one that really applies... and if we were to slightly overpay, that's perfectly fine with me.. especially if some miracle were to happen where we get Cofield AND Mebane.. talk about a beasty line..

although I doubt that happens, I can see Cofield/Mebane & Abrayo Franklin/Gabe Williams..

gimmie Eric Foster, Barry Cofield, & Brandon Mebane

Eric Foster doesn't seem like a bad option.. depends what happens with his legal case.

I doubt we spend big for a DT. So I think we can take Cofield, Mebane and Ngata off the list.

I realize that's just your opinion.. I think there's a shot for Cofield. We might as well make a play for Mebane.. and Ngata, well, yeah, I don't foresee that happening..

I highly doubt Hurney/Rivera will just disregard FA at DT since it's a huge issue...

The reason I think that is because Hurney wants to build through the draft and use FA to get stop gap type players. I would like to have Cofield next too Failrey but I think Cofield will cost too much.

For all you thinking Richardson is going to run out there and drop money on not one, but two or more FA players...at the same position mind you, is utterly absurd.

it's not really...

it's not out of the question to think we might try to go after Cofield and Franklin...

Cofield and Mebane, yeah, I would agree with you...

going after Cofield would be a stop gap, for many years actually... so you, yourself, pointed out why I think it's reasonable to expect..

when we have NO DT's, it's not unlikely to think we'll make a grab in FA..

We haven't signed a big name FA in years, I'm not getting my hopes up. Not to mention we have to extend Beason, resign Charles Johnson, James Anderson, Kalil, Thomas Davis and maybe DWill.

that was another moment in time.. with a team Fox expected only needed a player from success and deep playoff runs.. we made a few FA acquisitions, btw.. none TURNED OUT TO BE big, but were expected to be. Keyshawn, Ken Lucas, Mike Wahl, Hartwig, etc..

this is another moment in time.. one where we have a few holes to fill and a lot of cap room to make that happen..

whether people want to get their hopes up or not isn't the question at all.. hell, I'm not getting my hopes up. but that doesn't have ANYTHING to do with the possibility..

2 totally different discussions..

the possibility exists.. whether you or I want to agree with it or not is irrelevant to it's existence..

If Baltimore even allowed Ngata to see a glimmer of the light of FA then I would be ecstatic to get him for a Haynesworth type contract. That man commands a double team when he takes plays off. Most times 3 guys can barely block him. No way that Balt lets him walk though, someone would have to offer a contract that doesn't even make sense. Especially since Cody looks like he is going to take another few years, if ever, to become an every down player.

Don't really see NYG letting Coefield walk either. They might have a lot of work to do on the FA front and there is some depth behind him but that D runs through him. I just don't see them letting him go without way overpaying.

The Panthers are going to have to overpay for just about anybody they covet. I know that Bleys and some others think all FA are gonna want to play for Rivera but FA don't give a damn about defensive genius. How many FA did Crennel get to Cleaveland? FA's didn't line up to play for Singletary, Spagnola, or Mangini. Players want to play for a contender or they want to get paid. A man that has been playing football for 15-20 years isn't going to play for someone just because he might learn a few tricks.

I don't have a problem with the FO overpaying for FA as long as they are smart about it.
