NFL.com video: Is Clausen the right fit?

Do you want to make the turn around NOW or wait 2-3 years. Cam Newton MIGHT be something special, history says he will be a bust.

I think we need to trade for a veteran if we can and see if clausen develops.

Hell, history says that any QB can be a bust, including Andrew Luck. Does that mean we should never draft a QB?

There's risk of bust no matter who we take or what we do. There is no guarantee we will have the ability to take the top pick of a QB class ever again.

Of course, there is also the chance that our pick next year, despite probably not being #1, could have "better" options at QB. I'm not sold that's the case, though, since I expect us to be drafting in the 5-10 range. Call me a homer but yeah. :P

I can't believe that a Clausen thread has been up for three entire hours without CRA and TRD swooping in to tell us just how awful and hopeless he is.

I'm turning over a new leaf and am going to try and be positive from this point on about all players on the Panthers and all players that could possibly on the Panthers. I hope the coaches take a look and give a chance to whatever QB they think will make this team better. If Clausen turns the corner this offseason and wins the job in camp I will support him. If they draft Newton and he wins the job I will support him. If they bring back Moore and he wins the job I will support him. If they don't bring in any QBs besides Clausen, Pike, and a mentor, I will be upset that we didn't at least look for competition to bring the best out of our players.

Seems that the national media think that moore is in the running atleast. They also think that they would rather use someone in the league already then have a rookie starter.

I think this as well. I think Moore will be given a shot with the new regime but what he does with that will be up to him. I don't understand all the hate for Moore. He's not very old and has shown a lot of potential in the past. If they bring him back and he flops again they can cut with him without much loss. I don't know why people here are against it.

Maybe they just hate me that much and don't want me to be right/happy or something.

    • Me and you clearly have different definitions of production. If you remove the 2023 season where Thielen had just over 1k yards he is 43rd on our all time receivers list just ahead of Jonathan Mingo. And before you ask why would we remove that season? Well a couple reasons. For one thing we won a whopping 2 games. And for the biggest. Thielen was 14th in targets in 2023. We absolutely force fed him the ball all season and finished with the 32nd passing offense. For comparison sake 33 year old Jerricho Cotchery eclipsed over 1k total yards in just 2 more games and with 67 less targets than Thielen did in that 2023 season. He has above average hands. That's it. We overpaid him because we were desperate and overvalued him. That's the reality no matter how many times you or anyone else wants to quote me and get defensive about it.
    • He's played great and it was a win-win (rare free agent) for both parties.  One of the points is he hasn't made enough difference to "waste" 35 million on. Another point is by the time Panthers are hitting their prime, he would have taken snaps away from young WRs/TEs/RBs. "Thus" in the long term, hurting the teams new future "window."  But I dare think of the monkey poo of a offense the Panthers had without him the past 2 years. Lack of talent leads to many problems, including paying a 35 year old to be somewhat respectable. Hes one of few that cared enough and made a effort. Plus you know he's done great stuff in many other ways for the team, community juggernaut, leadership, etc.  Judgement is for AT and his 3 year panther career!!
    • But it has gotten a little wacky. RBs-https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/contracts/_/position/rb     A couple months ago iggles made Bark the highest guaranteed RB, jeanty was until then. That's what matters the guarantee. A rookie never played a down was the leader, until iggles howie made things right.  If a safety gets drafted in the top 8 or so, he would have the highest money too or very close to it.    Add in TEs and C too.    Even with the fixed %, the numbers are getting too much for a player that's not proven themselves.     Plus anytime a QB is drafted it screws up the contracts for players around and if next year a punter gets drafted at the same 90th spot, they want the same contract with the 5.7% increase. Teams would be laughing.    Its just reached this point. Another 10 years and I bet the vets will be crying.
