JR condescending to Peyton Manning during CBA meeting?

I don't see much wrong with what he said. Like MH said, the owners take all the risk of the business failing. The players risk their bodies and are paid so accordingly. With high unemployment, foreclosures, bankruptcies, I really don't feel any sympathy for either side. They both need to STFU and get a deal done.

If the players want that type of control, they should step up and be required to invest their own money into the teams. Then, they will have the financial risk to go along with the rewards that they want.

Until then, they are employees.

This. I wonder how much it costs the owners to move the team and all of their equipment to those 8 road games every season? I've got a feeling that JR feels the pinch a little bit more than Jerry Jones too. It's all the same for the players, regardless of what team they're on, but it's not all the same for the owners.

the point is this... the company is making more off of my performance and then asking me to sign for less than what I was already making..

would I be cool with that deal.. no... and if you would be cool with that... you under value yourself

Wrong. The owners are not asking anyone to take less money. They are asking them to accept a smaller raise.

So Peyton Manning made 20 million last year. As a free agent, he's scheduled to make $25 million a year but will only get $23 million. Damn, I feel so bad for the players. And here I set working for a non-profit and haven't seen a raise in 3 years due to the economy.

I can't believe all you fools who are supporting Richardson and his ignorance. You are all trained monkeys. Richardson is going to tank the NFL like he tanked the Panthers last year and all you monkeys are jumping around cheering about it.

Jerry Richardson, you are a moron! It's just that simple.

More on this from Jason Cole @ Yahoo Sports:

Next two paragraphs:

Richardson was unavailable for comment. A league source denied that there was any contentious discussion between the team owner and anyone from the union’s side.

“Mr. Richardson is a former player and made clear his respect and affection for the players during the meeting,” the source said.

To me JR is like the agent that instructs his client to go into a lengthy holdout to garner a better contract. Miss TC, miss preseason, miss half the season and maybe it finally works and you get a better deal, but at what cost? That might really be setting back the players career, but the agent doesn't really care about that, all he knows is that he gets more money.

Probably didn't happen then

I'm saying how would Feely know .... you're saying he's not lying, but he wasn't even there. Whole story is based on unnamed sources. But you're defending Feely, who, again, wasn't even there. Other unnamed sources say JJR wasn't condescending ... but you're defending Feely, who wasn't even there.

Get my point?

it's not the Jerry Richardson Panthers. it's the Carolina Panthers.

the team is not about him, it's about the players. if you're a fan of the players, there's no reason to ditch the team just because some senile douchebag is acting like a senile douchebag. he's irrelevant.

Irrelevant? Are you serious?

He is the owner. If he wants to, he can close up shop, walk away and say fug you to every fan. He can sell the team to an owner that will move the team to LA. He can do whatever he wants to do with the team because it is his team. Not the fans.

He is very relevant. And thank God we have an owner that actually cares about the fans and the team staying in Carolina and is willing to fight this hard to see that happen. Do you honestly think any player on this team cares about the team as much as you do? They go where the money is. And while JR is just as greedy as any other owner and does have the fans and the Carolinas in mind when he's doing this. Other wise, this team would have already been sold and moved.

    • It's not even a particularly nuanced opinion, yet it seems out of reach for so many.
    • I don’t think he can be great. For me he tops out as starter maybe make the playoffs, stuff like that. I would have been okay with that kind of player as a placeholder but you don’t invest the time and assets we did and be happy with that.  On the cure,If a guy has mechanical flaws but otherwise is enticing, you let someone else make the mistake of taking him in the top of the 1st. If he doesn’t get taken you can pick him up 2nd or 3rd day and try to develop him (off the bench not starting).  The risk/reward with Bryce was horribly misjudged. I didn’t want to trade like that in the first place because I didn’t see the generation talent that justifies that type of move, but once it was done CJ was the better gamble. No doubt.
    • That's what I mean. If you claim to possess some super knowledge about the QB position from a previous non-football but football related job, wouldn't you want to expound upon that to support this "everyone doesn't know anything about being a QB" thesis? The rest is just summed up by stating that there are a lot of variables to a QB being successful. Yeah....I mean that isn't earth shattering.  While there is certainly a lot of luck involved in all manners of success, consistent success with the variables around you also changing on a regular basis is usually fairly conclusive.  Is Trent Dilfer the same as Tom Brady? Is Nick Foles the same as Patrick Mahomes? I supposed based on the OP's arguments, they are. That's not really the way it turned out, however.  The NFL isn't unlike most other jobs or even other sports. The cream typically does rise to the top on a more consistent basis. Is it accidental that premier poker players seem to win or perform very well on a consistent basis, give that any individual hand is largely luck?
