Say we do draft Newton, what to do with bum ass Clausen?

Awesomeness!!

If any QB who comes in here can't perform to their potential because of Jimmy posioning them, then they probably shouldn't be starting at QB here... or anywhere.

Jimmy is a 2nd round pick, so he is not costing us major $$$. If he can improve than he may become a servicable backup or get good trade value down the road if/when he does improve.

Sign a good veteran. Give Clausen one more chance, don't let Newton touch that field unless he's leagues and beyond where he should be for a rookie.

Hell if Cam pulls a Vince Young then I'm all for it, if not. Let him watch and learn.

Don't ruin him, like the staff did Jimmy.

Clausen is touted as having a fantastic work ethic and commitment to getting better, not really going to have any adverse affects at all.

Sound like Newton there.

And I think Moore is clearly done. He just flat out suck & isn't the same QB as we hopped when he look good last year & 2 yrs. before as a rookie. Not to mention he signed a one year contract last year & not many get offer a new one after signing that. Kinda like D.J. Hackett.

You'd let Clausen compete obviously. There's no harm no foul in that.

Yeah because Clausen is such a better option.

Moore is not practice squad eligible. He may get an invite to camp, but he's an unrestricted free agent and may figure his best chances for a roster spot are elsewhere. In Charlotte he's going to be in a numbers game, particularly if we draft a QB.

Clausen will get a chance to compete for the starting line-up. It's in everyone's best interest if he's improved enough to win it, particularly if we draft Newton. If he goes out next year and posts decent numbers, then he'll fetch a decent price as trade bait. And if Newton busts in that scenario, he'll likely be our starter long-term, and the experience won't hurt.

Newton will need time to adjust to a pro set and get used to the speed of the NFL game. Having the luxury to do that in practice rather than in a game can only be good for him.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but guys Clausen is the guy, whether they bring in a vet and let jimmy hold the clip board for a year, or toss him back in as the starter, he is the guy.

Yeah, that's why the General Manager and his Owner have outright stated that they need a new Quarter Back.

Jimmy dat deal.

Hurney isn't going to spend the first pick on any QB. He already stated he is staying with Clausen (for this season anyway). Get your head out of Newton's ass. Just because he has a good workout/combine doesn't mean poo. Stats don't mean poo. He was in a basic spread offense with limited reads and never had his hands under center or played out of a pro-style formation. He's a project, he may be good in 3 years, but I'm not going to be with the group of idiots that stand around while the FO plays musical chairs at the QB position.

After finishing 2-14 and earning the No. 1 pick in the 2011 NFL Draft, the Carolina Panthers are unsure whether or not Jimmy Clausen is the type of quarterback to build a franchise around. While Clausen deserves at least one more year as the starting quarterback considering the weapons he had as a rookie, Panthers general manager Marty Hurney recently told the Charlotte Observer the team’s No. 1 need this offseason was finding a quarterback to compete with the former Notre Dame standout.

A few weeks ago, Carolina announced their plans to draft Andrew Luck with the No. 1 pick until he decided to return to Stanford for his senior year. Now, it’s hard to determine what the Panthers will do with the pick considering this year’s quarterback class doesn’t have any candidates worthy of going first overall in the draft.

Most mock drafts have Auburn’s Nick Fairley as the top pick in April’s draft–which means if the Panthers went in this direction, they may look to free agency when it comes to adding a new quarterback. As of now, Clausen and Tony Pike–who was also a rookie in 2010–are the only quarterbacks under contract heading into next season. This year’s class contains plenty of talent at quarterback, but as Joseph Person mentions in his latest article–there are no first-round players that stick out like Luck.

Adding a quarterback may be Carolina’s top need this offseason to compete with Clausen, but it’s a little more complicated than originally expected. If they do end up drafting a quarterback in the first round, it would most likely come as a result of trading the top pick–which brings up the next difficult question of whether or not it’s worth passing up a talented player like Fairley.

Want to try that again?

draft aj green and since the pats have 2 first round picks and are 2nd round pick we trade steve smith for are 2nd rounder and keep clausen

You would be lucky to get a 4th round pick for Steve Smith. Clausen would probably be a 4th/5th. But that would be a waste. Clausen gets one more season, if he doesn't bring it, then oh well. But we need to bring in a stop gap/Veteran QB to help out with the young guys.
