I now 100% endorse Cam Newton for the #1 pick

Mobility and running aren't the same.

...Vick was/is a runner, is one of a kind...

You could very easily argue that Newton is more talented than Vick was coming out of College. Vick was a good QB in a great Program that had been doing well long before he came around. Newton put Auburn back into the National Spotlight. Vick has a quickness about him which makes him dangerous Newton has the size to take a shot and still get up.

Newton has every tool that Vick had while at Va Tech. It has only been the maturity of being in the league long enough and sitting in a cell for 2 1/2 years did he finally settling into being a mobile QB.

God knows choosing a QB with the #1 pick is tough enough, Newton makes it tougher, but IMO you gotta say WTF every now and then and make it happen.

2 things that I think are a difference maker. 1. If he fails we could convert him to a WR or TE. 2. Clausen IMO has the tools and will be better in this system giving Newton a backup or someone to sit behind.

I don't want Gabbert otherwise I will be content with Newton, Fairley, Peterson or Bowers.

Walterfootball just posted an updated, 5 round mock draft today..

There was a big change in our first pick. It still says nick fairley, but under the description cam newton is being talked about (no information about cam was in the first pick description before today's update)

What I found interesting is that the guy believes that we WILL chose Cam if our owner is willing to spend the money.. is money really that important in influencing who we pick first? if it is that sucks ass..

Well, anyways if you guys haven't heard about walterfootball mocks or if your curious about the update, here is a link: http://walterfootball.com/draft2011.php

When talking about the Panthers pick so many people make no sense when describing their reasons. This one does it also. I just find it so funny. First, this Jerry is cheap and not going to pay stuff is BS. One season of unloading contracts does not make that true. JR has, does pay and that will not be an issue again going forward once the CBA is done. Second, the writer goes on to say how Clausen is clearly not the answer and the team should just wait another year to start looking for a long term solution, and that DT is our biggest need

He did say he thinks Cam is great leader whose intangibles are off the charts. That the Panthers team lacks direction, so Newton would be the perfect solution.

I get basically from the article it comes down to how he feels about Jerry cause as I re read the article he is basically saying Cam will be the #1 pick if JR is willing to pay and that is excately what will happen CAUSE JR will pay and QB IS our biggest need and like he said Cam can be the perfect solution

A week before the draft, Marty Hurney might do what at least one other GM did since they started letting teams with the #1 pick negotiate with players before the draft and make an offer to his 3 top players on the board. Whoever is willing to take the least amount of money will be the pick. I don't remember who did that, but I distinctly remember that happening in the past. That sounds like a very Panther thing to do.

with no CBA after march and the draft is in April how do you offer contracts to 3 different players? By writing a rain check?

    • All I heard was uber rides, weight trainers, and t shirts??? Maybe some meals too........ What a monster and he should be tossed in a rusty wood chipper!!!1!11!!!!!
    • This is from 5 months ago. It was one or the other. Trade for one or draft one. We apparently called the Jets about Wilson. We also talked to the Seahawks about Metcalf. Drafting our own guy was the best course of action given the required investment. Regardless now is the time for Bryce Young to produce. We are fourth amongst all teams in cap spending on the OL. Back to back first round picks at WR and multiple young TE draft picks now. Very solid and respectable backfield. New pieces across the defense. The time is now.
    • That was just the worst time to have their worst game of the season. One key deal was the broncos guess the Panthers would NOT change any plays or flow to the game. Another key point overlook that bronco defense was truly one of the best in the NFL history. It was the best defense the Panthers faced that year, by far. They were not ready for it, but broncos were ready for the Panthers. Mix in that bad luck, poor refs showcase, and this is the golden boys last game........ Panthers needed to win by 20 and the broncos defense was not going to allow that.  Panthers were the favorites and I believe they also thought that it was going to easier than them destroying NFC playoff teams as they marched to the SB. I've heard darin Gantt say the play calls were to give remmers help, but for some reason the team never did it. During the year they never had that problem, so maybe never practiced giving help via TE/RB, or WR chip. Cam was superman that year, no need for any adjustments...... Until you meet a legendary defense with studs at all levels, Think about it, Peyton was throwing wingless dunks for the whole season, the defense had to carry his corpse to the SB. That's how good they were, not many defense are able to get to the playoffs and win a SB without decent QB play. If you recall the beginning of that defense took Tim Teblows and his non-throwing arse to the playoffs couple years before. That's insane the level of defense needed to overcome.
