The whole "draft a QB savant with no NFL measurables" argument is also on the rocks at the moment. You need a little bit of this, little bit of that to make it work.

Meanwhile, last year's MVP was a "draft an athlete and teach him how to be a QB" guy.

Allen is the success everyone shoots for. Richardson is the more common result.

Mind you, if Bryce reaches the kind of success we're hoping for, he'll be an outlier as well.

wut?

I'm not sure he should've won the MVP last year but I don't think you'll find anyone that tries to argue that he's not currently a top 5 NFL QB. Seems to me that Mahomes, Allen, Burrow, Lamar, and Allen are clearly the top 5 guys with Mahomes clearly being #1 and then the arguing can start from there. LOL

Allen as a quarterback is to me right now is what Andy Reid used to be as a coach.

For the longest time, Reid would look like a world beater in the regular season only to flame out in the playoffs. That's Allen right now (Jackson too).

Reid got over the hump. Allen and Jackson might also...

...but neither has just yet.

Newton made it to the Super Bowl, and commandingly so.

MVP doesn't prove anything to me until he at least makes it to the Super Bowl.

That why i mentioned the KC dynasty. Those three different playoff loses were not Allens fault, in fact 1-2 plays and Bills win. KC just have better players and better coaches and more luck.

Defense-wise, Bills have been trying to crack the Reid-Halhomes magic. Its near impossible with rules and KC home field advantage.

Spags has started to force the league in naming him the best DC in NFL history. I agree if you take away Bill bielacheat.... Add in Andy Reid the best QB coach and brilliant play designer/play-caller, I mean that's too much for one QB to over-come on his own.

Just trolling or not, bad is bad scot. Allen is legit as any one QB has ever been.

Never said he wasn't legit, but I don't put him on the level of someone like Mahomes yet.

But I'd also add it wasn't just his team. Allen himself made his own fair share of mistakes as well.

I don't think anyone puts anyone else in the league on Mahomes' level. I think he's clearly in that second tier though along with Lamar and Burrow. Then I think it's another step down to tier three after those guys.

Most of the guys I would have considered elite have retired.

I can not discuss Allen with Scot anymore, but I feel there are four in the same group and ANY of them would have the same success if not more than mahomes. Again Andy Reid is the best QB coach in NFL history. I dare to think the numbers Burrow would have without being sacks 60 times a year, Andy Reid's guidance, and KCs talent. Hed break them all.

I wouldn't want to see what type of system Lamar would do with KC, it would be pure nightmare fuel for 31 defenses. Hed have over 1k on the ground and 5k in the air and challenge Toms 55 TD total. Love to watch tho....

Reid coached Vick for a while. It helped, but ultimately Vick was still Vick.

One of the maxims I swore by for years was to never sign a free agent QB from Reid's system because they never looked the same anywhere else.

Would that apply to Mahomes? 🤔

Difficult to say. I might lean no, but it applied to McNabb.

Doubt that theory ever gets a true test, though.

Vick's issue with Reid was that he couldn't take a hit, and he wouldn't go down. Otherwise he was pretty good much of the time.

Mahomes has a system that works. Mahomes doesn't become Mahomes elsewhere because not everyone can extract 125% of the ability of a specific player like Reid can. Kevin O'Connell is beginning to look like he has that ability as well but I'll need to see how he does with his Redshirt Freshman.

I also wonder how much of their playoff issue last year was related to the offense as a whole and not just Darnold. Fans don't really dive into the "why" things happen, they just see the what and complain about it.

I feel like Darnold is a guy that can have a partially good season, but never a complete one.

To his credit, he did at least improve the number of games he was capable of looking good for after he left us 😕
