Imagine being a Nebraska fan watching this

I mean, good grief. Might as well have just said it's his dream job and my ass is GONE if that offer is in the table. Hell, imagine being a Nebraska PLAYER watching that.

I despise Matt Rhule, but I thought he actually handled that pretty well.  He couldn't say "I have no interest, I don't even think about Penn State or any of my relationships that were formed there previously or with people there currently."  That would've come off as disingenuous, which is worse than owning how much he loves the place when he leaves.

Again, I think Matt Rhule is a bum, but he was in a damned if you do, damned if you don't situation there.  And I thought he took the right path.

I mean, he practically admitted it was his dream job waxing poetically about it and everyone in the building. He did everything but flat out publicly ask for the job and admit that if he has an offer he'd gone.  I completely disagree. He handled that terribly. It wouldn't have been that hard for him to simply say "Listen, that's my alma mater I have nothing but love for my memories at Penn State but I'm the head football coach at the wonderful University of Nebraska and that's where every bit my focus is - Nebraska football and the kids in that locker room and building this program back to where it expects and deserves to be and that's all I have to say about this."

It makes me wonder about the 2021 meltdown that was rumored to have happened for those of you that remember.

I can't recall. What was it?

“Supposedly” back in 2021, I don’t remember if it was a leak from a former player or coach but it was said on Twitter that he and the coaching staff was allegedly getting trashed on Saturday nights before games on Tito’s vodka and specifically right around the Miami game he went off the rails when Franklin got the extension because he wanted a shot at the job.

He seems to have the ego to match said actions. Not sure I would buy that source given that it didn't get much national attention.

That's the sort of thing ESPN would spew for days on end if it had any shred of credibility.

Yeah I don’t think it was credible, I just remember it getting passed around on Twitter from people who “knew people”.

    • Another thread where the Huddle melts down over a Bryce comment.  "Conversations" and "Bryce Young has been signed to a new long-term contract" are still far away from being the gospel.  For a fanbase that has watched two top-3 drafted QBs come here, and us move on, only to see them elevate their play elsewhere, I find it comical. Bryce is flawed but this org is damned if you do and damned if you don't with BY9.  Why would our GM and HC say anything other than supportive about their QB1. Yes, he's extended, but I truly do not think if he goes out and has a repeat of the previous seasons, that he is here beyond 2027. They're giving him every opportunity and surrounding him with a ridiculous amount of assets on both sides of the ball. If he continues to pitch 110 yd/ game and cough up the ball while everyone else is busting their ass, no way Dan keeps him beyond the extension.
    • Ooof, I was not a Proctor fan. I agree w/ a lot of smarter folks than me that he's more of a guard and think his weight fluctuation is going to be something to navigate. I liked Lomu a lot, but figured there would be more talented guys there at 19. I also wasn't big on bringing in a TE via the draft. If it's not a vet (Njoku) or a trade for Mayer or Kmet, I'd just as soon see what the youngsters have. No need cluttering the room with more of the same.
    • Sam Darnold & Bryce Young are two very different Qbs ..just saying the last 25 years approximately 2/3 of ALL  first round Qb's  in the NFL were or are bust.so for everyone who makes it like a Sam Darnold you have two that don't make it or are a bust
