ESPN: "Future" Power Rankings

I would disagree. The only real proven talent on the roster that are Lewis, Hunt, Moton, Hubbard, and D. Brown. One could argue Moehrig. The overwhelming bulk is a mix of incomplete grades, unproven talent or known weaknesses.

I think when you factor in the depth after the starters, it's overwhelmingly 32nd ranked.

I really don't think there's anyway we end up as the least talented roster, but no need to debate it because things will begin to be revealed.

I can't see a list of "proven talent" without Jaycee. If the list is proven talent I think he has to be on it. I would probably include Ekwonu and Renfrow as well. Injuries and the occasional brain fart doesn't make talent "unproven" if you will, maybe inconsistent.

That too.

I am very happy to have signed Dowdle(needed a little time to warm up to it, as I was hoping for a draft RB) but the visions of Double Trouble 2.0 needed to be tempered quite a bit. I definitely don't think we will see anything like that. For all the reasons listed.

I think he will be the most impactful of our FA signings. All of the signings on D are role players/2nd tier players. We might have just rearranged deck chairs on the Titanic.

We haven't had two 1k backs since 2009. I would highly doubt that happens anytime soon.

It would require a significant increase in rushing attempts and efficiency. Not to mention a big improvement defensively.

That 2009 season we totaled 525 rushing attempts and also were ranked in the Top 10 in Points and Yardage defense.

We had 410 rushing attempts in 2024 in 17 games.

Taking credit for Dowdle as a "1k back" would expand that criteria to literally any team with a current roster RB that has run for 1k yards in the NFL. That likely would be a wider pool with that criteria.

There is quite literally only one team in the NFL with two 1k rushing yard RBs on the roster. Whether or not folks want to argue about having two quality rushers on the team means anything is up to them but the "I bet more than you think" response to "I wonder how many other teams have 1000 yard duos..." statement is definitively wrong. I'm not sure what's so off putting about that.

Availability is an ability. Horn and Renfrow fail pretty miserably at that. Additionally, I am not those amongst the ranks that consider Horn a "proven" elite CB. I think he has had stretches of elite play but rarely been consistent in that. In fairness, there are ample aggravating factors that impact that.

Ekownu has proven that he is an NFL LT. I would say he has yet to prove he is a good NFL LT. With a contract extension pending, it's now or never.

Least talented will be revealed after the whole season, so we will see. On paper, I would rank it the least talented, same as that ESPN panel.

You are completely wrong

Why tf would it matter if some backup ran for 1k in 2021 or whatever? Like clearly it’s nice and not nothing to have 2 guys who just ran for over 1k each this past season. It doesn’t have to mean Super Bowl, but it’s SOMETHING. Some of you really do be bending over backwards.

New England(Stevenson, Gibson)

Houston(Mixon, Chubb)

Detroit(Gibbs, Montgomery)

Atlanta(Robinson, Allgeier)

Carolina(Hubbard, Dowdle)

That is it for the current rosters.

I mean, if we're only talking "proven talent," that's one thing. Whether or not Horn is "elite" is another discussion. And you can always make an argument about how valuable oft injured, yet talented players are based on availability, I feel that's another discussion as well. I think that Ickey is proven talent. He could be considered elite at run blocking and serviceable at pass blocking as an LT. I think that he has proven to have NFL starter's level talent, but that that talent may be better as an OG than an LT.

At the end of the day, I'd hate to see our team without Horn and Ickey (and Renfrow, really, but he's a lot more expendable due to depth). In my opinion, the team's talent level certainly takes a hit when they aren't playing.

Yeah, I think we are ultimately mincing words and debating semantics. I am not implying they are guys I don't want, I just don't consider them proven commodities. They are definitely on a path that could lead to that.

I am just saying this is overall a pretty bad roster on paper, with or without the QB's.

I didn't think 32 was a stretch.

Very happy if we are rehashing this in early 2026 ans talking about how wrong I was. That would be fantastic.

there is literally one team that has 2 running backs that both ran for 1k yards on different teams in the year 2024

lots actually have of have multiple RBs that have hit 1k yards.

the initial statement I don't think was super specific.  The fact check seems to be specific.

Not sure it really matters.  We got 2 solid RBs.  So do other teams.

One thing that stood out was how young a lot of the RB ranks were.

well it is projecting 2025-2027 window it says.

Hubbard and Rico would be old RBs at the end of that window.  29 and 28 I think.  30 has always been the graveyard in the NFL.

No, I meant surfing rosters/depth charts for 2025 currently. I didn't take the full data but it seemed pretty heavily weighted towards 25 and under.

    • Went to school in MD when this came out. Dance floor got CRAZY when this joint came on!
    • They had best show out in Week 1 there are zero,I mean zero,  excuses for that offense  defense, haven’t play together yet and they still have Mr Soft and Predictable as DC  I expect break downs at times  …but that offense returns all starters except Tremble and both Mayes and Brady are veterans and can play LG and know the system not up for any participation awards this season they can save that practice energy for Jacksonville.     I’m sick of the, winning,  or looking competitive, when it doesn’t matter.
    • There are some tough decisions that I'm eager to see the results of... Does Blackshear sneak on to the roster as RB4? Does the team go with 4 TEs or just 3 again? And has Mitchell Evans done enough to defend his roster spot from James Mitchell? Who is WR6 and is there a WR7? TMac, XL, Coker, and AT seem to be locks imo and I'm assuming Renfrow also makes it due to all of the camp praise. Who makes it between Brycen Tremayne, Jimmy Horn Jr, and David Moore? If the team goes with 7 WRs, which one of those three doesn't make it? Jacolby George and Emani Bailey both have not gotten a lot of game time. Could the Panthers be trying to hide them so that they can be stashed on the PS? Do they go with 10 OL instead of 9? Who makes it out of Walton, Carter, and Kingston? DL locks are DB, BB3, ARob, and Turk. That leaves Jaden Crumedy, Cam Jackson, Sam Roberts, Shy Tuttle, and LaBryan Ray all competing for the final 1 - 3 spots. Does DJ Johnson get IR'd and Thomas Incoom make the roster as EDGE5? What in the fuuuuuuuuuuuuck is going to happen at LB? Only locks seem to be Wallace, Rozeboom, and Cherelus (Wallace has mentioned in media how Cherelus has been big bro for him on the team). Rhattigan had some good moments against Houston, Martin-Scott is an SC guy, Krys Barnes has popped on defense and on special teams, and Windmon got time starting for the team last season. Are two of those guys going to make it or are the Panthers poaching from another team's cuts? CB5... who is it? Do they go with the 4 expected safeties or bring in a 5th? Has Ransom done enough to take the start from Nick Scott?
