I don't think the NFL views Horn as the player that we do. Remember, availability is an ability. TBH, if we had let him hit the market, I don't think you would have seen a ton of longer term contract offers precisely for that reason.

Wasn't it ESPN who had executives from each team rank players at each position and Horn came in at like 7 or 8 in the league?

Yep, just found it... https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/45531014/top-10-nfl-cornerbacks-execs-scouts-2025-espn-jeremy-fowler-position-rankings

Horn comes in at #7

#8 on the list was Jaylon Johnson, who is 68th in this Top 100

#9 on the list was Quinyon Mitchell, who is 81st in this Top 100

#10 on the list was was Devon Witherspoon, who is 100th in this Top 100

Marlon Humphry was an Honorable Mention, and is 88th in this Top 100

I honestly cannot recall. I would be interested to read that article if you do find it. I don't personally view him as a top 10 CB. I haven't seen enough of him on the field to justify that.

Top 5 overall potential, without any question at all.

last season he took a hit IMO.  Dude never travels, only game I can recall him remotely traveling was last year vs a completely washed Nuk Hopkins and dude was shook.

That ultimately is my Horn issue.  I think a CB of his pay grade should be a WR eraser.   And we have never seen that given he doesn't travel.

Kind of surprised nobody from our oline made the top 100 (not to mention DB or Horn). That being said, I don't think most people on ESPN could name 3 players on the Panthers

David Newton cant even name 3 Panthers players, your damn right the average ESPN employee cant.

Him not traveling is on Evero. He prefers using Horn to erase a section of the field vs a player since we don’t have much talent. If our defense had the talent like he did in Denver I’m sure he would let Horn shadow a WR. Regardless Horn is having to play how his DC draws it up.

True.   Buts that’s  why I  say I hate the pay given what you/we do with him.   If you can do it….erasing a #1 WR is more valuable than erasing a fraction of the field.   Opponents simply can dictate who covers their dominant players and weaker players.

we pay him like his is a WR eraser.  And we don’t use him as such nor actually know if he could/is one

He has the ability to be one. When you have no pass rush and some bad safeties you also can’t let the offense decide where to move one of your few players. I get why he has to play him in zone right now and let the lesser players have a smaller field to work with. I do hope he gets a chance to play more man this year because historically he is better at it.

As for the paying him thing, I get where you are coming from. Letting him walk would have just depleted us of what little talent we have though. We probably overpaid but each year that contract should look better as the market resets.
