Bengals exploring quarterback options

Mr. Scot

Recommended Posts

According to Bengals.com writer Geoff Hobson, while the team has publicly taken a hard line stance on Carson Palmer's trade demands, behind the scenes they're "kicking the tires" on all options and taking a close look at the top QBs in the draft.

Sounds like they've come to an "oh crap, he really means it" moment in Cincinnati.

Still not sure a simple pick swap would be enough to net Palmer, but it's starting to sound like it might not be as farfetched as I would have thought.

(all dependent on the CBA, of course)

Eh. Some mocks had the Bengals taking a QB before Palmer's announcement... so not really surprised. Many people this year had said that their plan was to draft a new guy and have him sit behind Palmer for another two years or so.

Not too surprised they're doing this, but maybe they'll get an itchy trigger finger :)

When Boomer Esaiason wanted out, they drafted David Klingler in the first and let Esaiason go the following year.

It's possible they could speed up the process this time.

getting palmer for a year or two would be a waste. don't want any part of that deal....esp. at the amount he's supposed to be getting paid.

dude is old and he's got a bum arm.

we shouldn't get any QB who doesn't have a chance at being the fulltime, long term starter for us. anything less than that is just us spinning our wheels.

If (and that is a Big IF) the coaching staff think that Clausen could be developed into a franchsie QB, picking up a vet like Palmer for a few years could be very appealing to them.

Damn....I really have no idea what this team is going to do in the draft of FA. The change in coaching philosophy has us all guessing.

yup, especially if it grants them extra picks than just the Bengals' #1.

It also allows the team time to work through Clausen in camp and see what he has with a new coach and new system, while having a reliable player that should be able to keep you competitive if you don't ask him to do too much and if the defense is solid. Big "ifs", of course.

    • Carolina Way is gone, it went out the window with the Belichick hiring. They'll hire the best coach they can, ignoring everything else if possible.    Athletic reports that the school's top two targets are Tommy Lloyd and Billy Donovan. They don't care the buyout for a coach either, they and the boosters are willing to spend and will be going outside of the coaching family tree 100%.
    • I don't think it's a homer though when I really feel this team can beat anyone.  The points that can be scored in bunches when the big three are on has high potential.  Moose has effort for days and IMO is the heart of the team.  And didn't see Miles becoming the team "vet" in the starting lineup just roleplaying lol.   We have to limit the turnovers though (Brandon Miller I'm looking at you bud, you are a bad ball handler) and some little things.   Colby off the bench is a cheat code and him and Kaulk have a nice little game going with the picks.    Sion playing every game and just getting better each game.  He has grit.  Grant and Green also grit.  We need replace Tillman with PJ Hall though.  Tillman looks like someone that shouldn't be on an NBA court, or at least with this team, he's just too slow for this tempo.   Even McNeely looked decent tonight and can drive.   If Kaulk and Moose could even be like 30% 3pt shooters man....
