TMac looked great. Outside of running the wrong route on the 4th down that led to the ball going out of the back of the endzone, he had a solid game for a rookie WR.

I'm not so sure that it was T-Mac on that one, I think it was meant to be a quick out to XL but he ran the wrong route.

Can't seem to find it in this moment, but this morning I saw a clip of the play basically from the angle of the first down marker on the sideline and it looks like as soon as Bryce took the snap, he looked XL's way and started to cock back his arm to throw it but XL just never turned around and kept drifting towards the end zone.

I could be wrong, but to me, albeit on just one look, it looked like he expected XL to turn his head around and run an out route 2 yards past the LOS to pick up the 1st and when he didn't, Bryce panicked.

I mean, Bryce could've just thrown it to wide open Sanders coming right across his face.

That route combo calls for the slant to be the rub for the out route. XL would've been wide open. When he looks at JT0 (screenshot can be provided if there's doubt), JT0 isn't looking at Bryce, is still trying to get open, and has TMac's defender coming into the area.

I don't disagree though that he should've at least tried to get it to somebody instead of sailing it out of bounds on 4th down. Better to give a teammate a chance than essentially give up on the play.

Yosh Nijman also gave up immediate inside pressure, which was why the ball got pulled back down.

I wouldn't have been mad at BY committing the cardinal sin of throwing the other direction so long as he tried to highpoint TMac in the endzone. :3

Aside from his inability to block, stay in bounds, and run the right direction after a 5-yard pass reception, XL was on fire yesterday.

Speaking of, that's one thing I'm most looking forward to from TMac + XL: their contributions blocking on the perimeter and how they improve over the course of the season.

If both big bodies can start dumpstering DBs we're going to see a lot of runs bounce to the outside for chunks. 🙏

Unfortunately there’s a clip out there circulating of XL giving about 5% effort on a critical down and distance when run blocking. Let’s his man blow right past him, largely untouched, to make a TFL in the backfield. Gotta wonder if our staff even serves up ass-chewings in the film room for plays like that. High school players would get benched for the effort he showed on that play. For a 230lb WR he sure does play scared.

The one thing you can't do in that situation is sail the ball through the back of the endzone 20 feet above the ground. That's a guaranteed fail. Taking a sack trying to scramble around is considered the cardinal sin there but at least you're TRYING to do SOMETHING. Throwing the ball away in that situation is just unthinkable.

For sure. Even arguing that taking the sack means they get a few more yards really doesn't beat out the necessity to get 7 at that point in the game being down 20-3 5min into the second half.

His only options being XL + JT from his positioning to me says he should've tried to lead JT with something low.

At the same time, if TMac gets the rub then Bryce likely still has time to make the throw. To be fair to TMac, if Nijman doesn't give up immediate inside pressure then Bryce is hitting XL regardless of the rub.

As crappy overall as week 1 felt, TMac put out some really good tape to show what he does well while also showing where he can improve. The more he starts to settle into the playbook and concepts, the nastier he's going to be.

They've gotta get TMac his first TD next week. Get him going early!

T-Mac anytime TD next week seems like a GREAT bet

After how yesterday went, it would be a shock if he isn't HEAVILY targeted from the opening kickoff this weekend, I'm expecting close to 15 targets this week.

Combined with it being played in Arizona, so you've got to think his college teammates are going to make the 2 hour drive up from Tucson to see him play.  Plus it's not a long trip from his hometown in SoCal either, so he should have a lot of family and friends in attendance on this one.

All just aligns for him to get into the end zone I think.

10+ targets, 100+ receiving yards, 2 receiving TDs in TMac's return to the state of Arizona

Anyone have a clip of his catch that was called back on the illegal man downfield?

Not sure I've seen it since the play happened, but I want to see it again.  I feel like I just remember it looked like the ball was going to hit the defender in the back and he made a great adjustment to swim around him and make a great hands catch.
