2002 - Julius Peppers (future Hall of Famer)
2003 - Jordan Gross (perennial Pro Bowler/All Pro)
2004 - Chris Gamble (decade+ shutdown corner)
2005 - Thomas Davis (perennial Pro Bowler/All Pro)
2006 - DeAngelo Williams (Pro Bowler)
2007 - Jonathan Stewart (Pro Bowler), Jeff Otah (injury bust)
2011 - Cam Newton (MVP)
2012 - Luke Kuechly (future Hall of Famer)
2017 - Christian McCaffrey (Offensive Player of the Year; perennial Pro Bowler/All Pro)
2018 - D.J. Moore (perennial Pro Bowl snub)
2019 - Brian Burns (perennial Pro Bowler)
2020 - Derrick Brown (Pro Bowler)

Out of all of these picks, exactly three (Gamble, Otah, and Moore) failed to make a Pro Bowl. Of those, Gamble and Moore were/are fantastic, while Otah was a bust due to injury (that was still an All-Rookie player in 2008).

You'd be hard pressed to find a better resume in the first round.

I find it odd you aren't including his entire draft history.

Why was peppers picked #2? Why was Cam picked #1? Many others in the 8 range, you know why- Panthers had a terrible W-L record compared to the league.

Herniay was great as they could in the 1st, team-wise and building a team come from drafting well in rounds 2-7. His free agency history is horseshit same as his team building, but given those 1st rounders had huge load carrying shoulders it saved his overall failure.

He was the worst at signing panthers- Charles Johnson and his agents nearly poo bricks, they never thought an offer like that would happen. All the over-paying RBs, when the league was not. Panthers had two in the top 5, why??   I still member the year gettlegut signed 36 year old peppers to 3.5million. Hernaiy replaced him cause of the Olsen and TD crying(gettlegut was right), next year hernia gave him 5 million for a 37 year old. He alllllways gave away too much cap space.....

Your argument here is that good draft picks should be ignored because some were in the 8-16 range. Okay - so name another GM with a string of equally good picks.

If picking good players was easy, we’d be in the playoffs.

I don’t have time to compile 15 years of entire drafts.

have you identified a GM with a similar or better record in the first round?

Weinke days was 1 year long in 2001. We were in the Super Bowl 2 years later after we got Peppers and Gross in back to back drafts. This has been 7 years of 2-7 wins per year and no draft picks as good as either of those two players.

Same goes for Clausen. Like Weinke, his days were 1 year and 5 years later we went to the SB after we draft Cam and Luke back to back.

I don’t know if you are trying to be obtuse but nothing in the Panthers past comes close to the 7 year long debacle we are in right now.

The Weinke and Clausen “days” were both shorter than the past 7 years and both ended in Super Bowl appearances.

They aren't going to the Playoffs anytime soon.....let alone the Superbowl. I guess we have to embrace the suck.

No. I said he hit on some of the picks cause they where in a draft spot to pick the best Player. Even Gross was thought of as the best OT in that draft. Panthers lost enough to draft him at 8 or 9. My dead dog could have selected peppers....

I said he was great if not the best at picking in the 1st round.

Panthers still have the same hernia problem, drafting 2-7. Again team building.

Dan's 2nd rounders ar brooks and Nic. I do not even know one snap of nics and brooks as you know was injured when drafted.

I do know the dirty secret to drafting tho.

So you don't have time to do anything but cherry picking but you want me to compile the track record of 32 teams GM's across almost 60 years of NFL history? Seems reasonable.

How about I just let you continue to live the delusion that Marty Hurney was a good GM?

Hurney was horrendous. He was great in the first round that's it. Any other round and FA was largely trash.

But we were still immensely more competitive with him more consistently than the jabronis we've had in the front office the last few years. That's because when he hit in the first he hit on cornerstone talent. We can't do that. Not even close.

I didn’t cherry pick anything. I listed the first round picks. Can you find a better record in the 21st century?
