It’s not the worst strategy to run an inside draw in that situation….if the defense respects the deep pass. Patriots made a killing on that play

It’s one thing when you’ve got baker mayfield, Mike Evans and Chris Godwin.

it’s another thing when you have someone you absolutely under no circumstances are going to let go play action deep from the 11.

Yeah, Arizona isn't scared of Bryce, so they are probably expecting a run (or dump off to the RB/TE) on 1st down. And I don't think a run play on 1st would really surprise defenses there.

It just seems like we don't know what we want to do on offense - 1 second it's lets run out the clock; next second it's lets throw for a 1st. Everything on offense seems out of sync, from playcalling to blocking assignments to Bryce

There's so much dysfunction going on with this offense it's like they are just making the plays up as they go through the game. The end of each half was a complete disaster from start to finish. And despite Arizona's best efforts to give them the game they still couldn't do anything remotely close to indicate they knew what they were doing.

The crazy thing is some of these plays that went down to like 2 on the play clock were basic inside zone runs. That poo shouldn't take 30+ seconds to decide when you are down 24... It's not like they had to hot route multiple receivers and change blocking assignments after lining up.

It's almost like Canales has somebody else's playbook and needs to flip through 10 pages to try and figure out what play he is going to run

Sometimes I wonder who he's talking to in his mic. He's oblivious to whatever is going on during an offensive series because he's always staring at the play sheet whenever they show him on TV. He's slowly becoming Coach Cline.

Good observations OP.  Nice to see a thread giving a look into the plays that don't always show on the sheets.

That blunder is a mixture of coaching and execution.  And also a lot of poor awareness by our guys on the field.  No one seems to have any real command over the offense.

Canales has potential (I understand this is disagreeable), but he needs to have someone at OC so he can assume more of the HC role.  I never like it when the HC is calling plays unless he's a real top-tier offensive mind.  I think there's potential in our preachy Peloton instructor, but he's not a Shanahan, McVay or O'Connell.  I'd prefer he seek out a savant.

A potential change that could prolong his time in Carolina is probably an Idzik role change (AHC role) or fired, and we bring in a more seasoned OC.  And of course on the non-thread topic, we need a new DC.

I think that has almost 0% chance of happening.  These guys are typically married to calling plays.  The only situation where I can see it happening, is Tepper requires him to hire a rock star OC for his final lame duck season.  We've seen that episode before.

Oh snap that's true haha.  Although he could probably do better than McAdoo.

If we're staring at a new QB, DC and a new OC come end of season, might as well get the new HC.

Yeah I get the impression that Dan and Dave are married to each other in Tepper's eyes.  I think they will most likely both be fired in the same offseason cycle.  But Tepper will probably make Jim Caldwell GM or something insane.

    • Number 9  Carolina Panthers  Bryce Young, the first overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, produced career highs in completion percentage (63.6%), passing yards per game (188.2) and passing touchdowns (23) in 2025. However, those numbers aren't exactly stellar by NFL quarterbacking standards. Even though the Panthers backdoored their way into the postseason in 2025 as NFC South champions with an 8-9 record, Young's performance was up-and-down. He threw for the third-fewest passing yards by a quarterback to make the playoffs in the last 20 seasons, per CBS Sports Research.  FEWEST PASSING YARDS BY QB TO REACH PLAYOFFS, LAST 20 SEASONS (MIN. 16 STARTS) PASSING YARDS PLAYOFF WINS 2012 Christian Ponder (MIN) 2,935 0 2008 Joe Flacco (BAL) 2,971 2 2025 Bryce Young (CAR) 3,011 0 2006 Steve McNair (BAL) 3,050 0 2019 Josh Allen (BUF) 3,089 0 Young did deliver some high highs, like when he threw for a franchise-record 448 yards passing in a Week 11 overtime win at the Atlanta Falcons and when he went toe-to-toe with Stafford in the playoffs in a 34-31 defeat.  Kenny Pickett couldn't win the Cleveland Browns' quarterback competition a year ago, and Will Grier is a career backup. • That thread has all the huddle legends either posting in it or mentioned in it. I remember everyone of those folks and I truly miss seeing them post here. This place was so much better with them here.
