Vet QB Options - Trade/Cut/FA Edition

The QB position has been in a steady decline for years.  You’ve got a few really good ones and then it’s just a mess after that.  The NFL needs to figure out how to develop QBs before we full on revert to leather helmet (rugby) football.

They did it to themselves but it will work its way back. We are being smart and figuring out the league is not the pass happy one of 2018-2023 and getting ahead of it. Once every team stop running majority double high safety looks and have to commit to the run again, QBs will magically look great again

I don't think it has. I just think the position has become more and more vital to success. The days of dragging the Trent Dilfers and Brad Johnsons of the world to Super Bowls are over. People will point to Nick Foles but that guy played out of his mind in that Super Bowl run. He didn't play like a Trent Dilfer, he caught lightning in a bottle and played like a Hall of Famer for a very brief but very key period.

You left out a guy that I would watch. Davis Mills while CJ Stroud is out. He struggled a little against the Broncos defense (who wouldn’t) and had not been practicing with the 1s. He has been considered by some to be one of the best back ups in the league.

I would also watch out for Mac Jones. He’s doing really well with a very injury ridden team. He seems to be going down the Darnold path.

I’m fine with it considering we never found one of those Rivers/Manning/Brady/Brees types from that era. Our best QB only threw for 4,000 once. And our Passing TD record is from a traveling vet that played here 27 years ago.

Rugby style football is our DNA

I don't think it is as dire as that.

There is certainly some NFL chatter that QB's are less prepared than before(several reasons given).

I am less inclined to believe that than I believe the NFL just has less overall impulse control with QB's. Similar to the NBA pre-age limit. No one made these idiots overdraft 18 year old HS players, they just did it.

    • Great article on all the Lil Canes attending their debutantes ball. Walt with a great breakdown of all the rookies, as always, and I'm a huge fan of his team coverage, he is truly a treasure, but as a fan of mixed metaphors and superfluous language which some might ignorantly refer to as a "run-on sentence" I never really understood what that mean or where to put the comma after a quote in the middle of a sentence, but holy poo Walt, this is a gem, "While there's a long road left in front of them left to determine whether or not they'll have that same success on the blue line again, the beginning stretch of the journey has been thrown a wrench, and the story on defense has been the emergence of up-and-comers forced into becoming lineup regulars." , bravo, take a bow, sir!
    • How do I activate said Krispy Kreme deal? I'm stoned man you can't be playing with me about this...
    • When the broadcast showed the two benches side by side during the last TV timeout, it was pretty obvious the whole operation is a shitshow. If I was the owner, I would play that clip, with commentary, on the jumbotron at MSG as I fired the coach, GM, President, the whole lot. Bring in your AHL leadership team, wholesale, to finish out the season and start from scratch next year.  Can't fire all the players and fold the season. But, hopefully decapitating the zombie will light a fire under the body and burn out the cancer of the roster. (It makes sense if you don't think about it...) There are obviously issues on the roster. But, you can't have the entire coaching staff completely tuned out with 5 minutes left in a 2 goal game this early in the season. And you can't trust the people that hired them to hire the next staff. If you trust your AHL GM/Scouts, let them run the deadline firesale.   ...     Please don't let the owner read any of this. Because, this poo is hilarous!
