It set them back and will likely take them from contender to playoff participants. Kind of huge step back for them.

We can see it but again if they were at all worried about it then why not bring in a different #2? Lots of maybes. Maybe one does and the other doesn't. Maybe they signed on without that being a choice. It keeps going really. How is rolling into year 4 being hopefully any worse than signing a game manager to a crippling contract that could pay 2 great players instead?

I do agree they should se either but where is thr proof? I don't think we have seen it yet

TBH, they are in a transitional period with their core, so I don't think it will be a big setback for them. Especially when you look at the structure. They have a pretty early out on the contract.

well we do disagree. And it’s really semantics.

Tepper has hired and fired at really absurd levels at Charlotte FC and the Carolina Panthers (both coaches and front offices). Thats IS admitting mistakes and moving on quick (which isn’t always the NFL way).

You claim it’s blaming others.  Doesn’t really matter how you frame it.  The moving on action is what it is.

end of the day when things are bad, Tepper is not the type to keep giving things that don’t work time.  That’s the philosophy of others.  Which you see by lots of NFL time.  Two different ways ego plays out.   Tepper isn’t riding some stock down the toilet when he realizes it is bad.  He sells.  Sure he might lay blame.

but the sticking with Bryce aspect screams others IMO.  Not Tepper.

He's just a slightly worse version of Dan Snyder. Same ego, same hubris.

I just don't think you completely understand how people wired like him tend to think outside their area of expertise. If you ever have a chance to be around a bunch of them, you will see what I mean.

99% of all of this franchises troubles are David Tepper based.

I meant to say  too that corbett needs to sit and so does moton

That's actually nuts what you are saying. The backups to Corbett and Moton at OG and RT are demonstrably worse than they are. By any available metric or film study known to mankind.

We don't need them on the bench.

Didn't they already let tallent walk to sign him to that contract? That also doesn't include guys they could have brought in with that cap.

For a guy who signed that size of contract I have a hard time seeing him be happy with a more reasonable contract without going through the wringer like Baker did to get to Tampa. Even then he is no Baker either.

If anything SF has been stalled around QB play so going Mac Jones is another lateral move really just escaping terrible contract they gave to Purdy.

No. They let talent walk because they have a LOT of big contracts and they can't afford them all. If you look at their drafting, it's been stellar so it really is a transitional period. Don't get me wrong, I hope they collapse. I fuging hate them. But, that's not really the reality, sadly.

It would be a hilarious thing for him to attempt to hold out. It wouldn't work, they would just put Purdy back in and roll out as if nothing happened. They are similar level players.

I will be curious to see if they opt to trade him in the offseason and get some draft capital. I would if I were the 49ers.

I haven't been dialed in these days. I thought some D guys slipped away.

Im not sure how tradable Purdy is at that price. Honestly with a staff that makes that level of QB look good offloading should be a given, any way they can IMO. I don't want it to be us that I do know.

They have unloaded assets on offense and defense. Nothing that was too detrimental.

Not Purdy, Jones. Jones could net a 3rd or so.

I still don’t get the Dan Morgan mental gymnastics and how folks have invented this world where Morgan quietly raged against all Fitterer’s decisions with no evidence.

I think odds are Bryce present day is here because of Morgan more so than Tepper.  Tepper is horrible at hiring but Tepper isn’t the type to get stuck on ideas or people or afraid to admit mistakes (his is the opposite).

100%

The perception of Morgan is all too similar to that of Fitterer early on. You couldn't suggest he was simply just maybe not great at his job or the knives would come out.

He seems to have done a decent job this off-season except at the QB position. That gives me some hope. The best potential situation is that Morgan is doing a good job and they're just waiting on Tepper's blessing to move on at QB and Tepper is starting to see the light. How likely is it that that's what's playing out? I have no clue. But that's what I hope.

I agree with you. We'll see. But I have a hard time believing Morgan has been not sold on Bryce Young this whole time and is doing strictly what Tepper says because his actions say otherwise. We know the Tepper's meddle heavily but the things Morgan has said directly about Bryce Young do not sound like a man who was steadfastly against drafting him.

No way do they give him a contract

Keep him through year 4 but on the bench and get brisset for next year

find that qb in 2027 draft

seen enough

nothing short of a prolific offensive showing over the remaining  games against decent opponents justifies keeping him in a starting role next year

..or Canales as offensive coordinator

I don't see any reason to keep Young at all. Trade him for a late pick and move on.

Yes he could be a competent backup for a few games but that also takes up a roster spot for another QB with more upside. But even more importantly it just lets us move on from this epic mistake.

That's why I immediately bristle in regular life when I hear randos extoling the "genius" of a lot of the technocrat class without actually understanding the realities of those people.

They may be genius in their field.  Can’t change a tire.

Purdy is the one they need to ditch IMO

I would heavily disagree. They have a longer term financial commitment to Purdy and they are very similar level players. Unloading Purdy would be a true roster purge would have to happen.

That's destroying the health of the franchise for.....Mac Jones.

    • Absolutely. Despite the turnovers and the terrible slips we only gave up 17. If the offense could have mustered a single productive drive after the start of the game ...
    • I think Tepper (and owners in general) have  more influence on team personnel than most of us realize. Remember how Brenton "Sunshine" Berson was a roster lock when JR owned the team?  Frank Reich didn't want to draft Bryce, Tepper did. I remember him saying in an off-season meeting that the team wouldn't have to break the bank on WR's because of BY's processing ability and his ability to distribute the a ball to like a point guard to the skill position guys. Frank quickly realized it was almost hopeless situation. And, why are we running a 3-4 defense? We ran a 4-3 for almost two decades. One year after Tepper takes over, we went to a 3-4 and continue to do so despite never drafting the appropriate personnel to run it after Rivera was fired. Owners have a lot of say on what happens on that field. Look how Al Davis tried to ruin Marcus Allen's career essentially benching him during his prime years. Canales got this job because Tepper wanted someone who could "fix" Bryce; and Canales was overly eager to get his first coaching job and felt up to the task. No top coaching prospect was going to want to come to Carolina with our track record since Tepper bought the team and having their destiny tied to Bryce as his QB. A top GM candidate from outside the organization would feel the same way. In theory, it was too early to cut bait with him after only one season Dan and Dave knew one another and both wanted to be "the guy" in charge as coach and GM. Carolina provided the ideal opportunity. On the surface this hire, if successful, could validate Tepper's decision to give a fool's ransom for Bryce and he could fill the GM spot with a body but still have someone in power that he was familiar with. In all honesty, it we had a good QB and a capable back-up on the roster I doubt we'd be having this conversation because we'd probably be one of the top teams in the NFC.
    • Just reeks of bullshit. Good college QB but when you were watching him as an NFL prospect the physical limitations and playing style concerns were very obvious. Teams across the league almost certainly evaluated him as a backup QB prospect and the last thing you want out of a backup QB is a distraction. Strip away the media hype job, add in all the reports that Shedeur essentially completely blew off the pre-draft process and turned teams off essentially cementing what many already thought and nothing about his draft plummet was surprising. Watch the Browns draft room as the pick was announced. It's very obvious that wasn't their pick. The owner stepped on and said get me that press attention. Why would that have happened if there was a directive from the league not to draft him? It just doesn't pass the bullshit litmus test.
