All aboard the Patrick Peterson orchestra-train?!?!?

Sorry to make a single thread for one player but I just gotta officially come out and proclaim I'm probably going to be on the orchestra-train.

There are just so many wonderful reasons:

1. Most overall positional rankings I've seen have him as the best player available. BPA yay!

2. We have a hole at CB with no young talent that could possibly develop into a starter. Richard Marshall was a very good nickelback that should have stayed there. Captain is the same. I really liked them as nickelbacks but not as a full time starter. WR and DE has talent that has shown promise.

3. No off field red flags or questionable intangibles.

4. Very, very good measurables. While some positions in the draft have guys hoping they can somehow gain ground on those ranked above them, the combine simply widens the gap between Peterson and his peers. It's rare that the top rated guy is also one of the most physically impressive.

I really like that he's bigger because I've grown tired of watching the smaller Richard Marshall work in sneaky PI moves where he basically mugs the other guy. It worked sometimes but I'd rather just have a bigger guy on the outside.

5. He was a very highly rated prospect out of highschool and he lived up to the hype in college almost immediately. Maybe he'll make the next jump as smoothly.

6. There are fun immature puns and innuendo you can make with the Panthers having the #1 pick and his initials being PP. "When we go No. 1, you better be sure it's PP". teehee.

7. We may be able to trade down and still draft him.

8. He has return skills and is enthusiastic about other ST duties.

9. He's potentially better than most of the FA options. He's potentially another Asomugha.

10. With the new cap he will not be all that expensive which would enable use to retain more of the FAs. With the adjusted rookie cap, more vets get the money. So signing a vet instead of a rookie now has a more concrete chance of spending more money even at #1.

Drafting somebody in order retain the players we drafted just screams "Build through the Draft". It ties in perfectly with the Hurney JR plan.

11. The panthers have drafted more Chuck Bednarik winners than anybody else(Morgan, Peppers, Connor). So keep up the tradition.

12. He's not a one year wonder. People are comparing Fairley to Ndamukong Suh but Suh was not in danger of being a one year wonder. Same goes for Bowers.

13. The orchestra train has two conductors.

I think that's all i might have more. There are always cons too, but he has the least cons and the most pros out of anybody else. I think Dareus could fit a good amount of these too. But I'm going with PP.

I agree there is a hole to fill but it isn't as big as the others. I guess you can count me in, I've come to the conclusion Green or Peterson are the only picks I would be thrilled about, pure BPA. I'd be o-k with Fairley, Newton, Bowers and Dareus, but not exactly thrilled.

Biggest reasons why I like Peterson is is seems like a long-term player because he stays healthy and is tough and of coarse plays a position which can be filled for years by the same player.

Peterson is my first choice. However, I don't have a problem with anyone else if thats what the coaches want.

Yeah I feel the same way too. Only guy I probably really would feel nervous and skeptical of would be Nick Fairley. If Rivera, Hurney, and JR approve of him though I doubt he can be that bad. Even with the whole Peppers PR disaster he still worked out a lot better than many other #1 picks.

Same here.

I've seen him at the top of more scouts big boards than any other player and have yet to see outside the top 5 on anyone's list. Great talent, great intangibles, work ethic, leadership, a hell of a return man to boot. It's really hard to find any holes in his game and he really hasn't even hit his peak yet. The only real negative is the position value.

I've been aboard the Patrick Peterson bandwagon from the beginning. A lot of people say CB is a reach at #1, but who cares? There will probably be a rookie wage scale anyways so that's a non-factor. Experts are saying he has potential to be the next true shutdown corner like Revis/Aso.

PP7. Count me in. The more I read on prospects, the more I'm enamored by PP and Green. If Gamble can bounce back to form, with our young FAST safeties and Meeks running the DB show, our back 7 will be downright nasty. Plug in a FA DT or a 3rd rd DT and our line will perform just fine. Who knows, maybe Irvin will finally develop into a real DT and corrupt the pocket like he promised he would do! But for real, i'd be exctatic if we chose PP7

You look at the Jets and Packers, having elite CBs allows you to leave those guys on one-on-one islands for most of the game and go blitz crazy. That way you don't rely so heavily on just your DLine for pressure. I know they're different schemes but still.

PP7

Aggressively pursue a top DT FA (Cofield, Mebane)

Resign CJ, Sign/Extend our backers (Anderson, TDavis, Beason)

Few depth pieces here and there

With the new coaching staff this could easily be a top 5 defense

Bring in a franchise QB next draft which looks really good for QBs and you go from worst in the league to playoff contender in 2-3 years.
