Who knows the options? I am just saying Evero likely has all the leverage here.

Reich gave Evero leeway to pick most of his defensive position coaches, but Wash didn't have any history with Evero.

His connection to the 23 Panthers was via Dom Capers who'd worked with him in a senior assistant role when Wash was the jags Defensive Coordinator.

By coincidence, Wash actually has a little more history with Dave Canales. He was Seattle's DL Coach for two of the years Canales was coaching receivers.

A couple of the guys Evero brought in have since been fired. I'm still surprised Evero wasn't after last season, but after hearing that his contract end this year, I feel it's a lot more likely that he and the Panthers part ways next year.

It's just a matter of whose decision it is (quite possibly mutual).

I think Hendrickson and Phillips would likely want top 5 pass rusher contracts to come here, if I am being honest.

I think we'll move to the draft for pass rush guys, maybe even use our first on it. Edge rushers, especially free agents, are just too expensive. Better to grow your own.

I am not against spending top dollar for top pass rushing talent but it needs to make sense at the time. I definitely don't think Hendrickson makes ANY sense for us given age and where we are as a franchise. Phillips does make some sense as a younger guy but, again, we are in the infancy of our roster building comparatively. Why blow a ton of money on free agents every offseason? We spent a lot the last two offseasons on veteran free agents to some success but a chunk of these guys may never see the completed result of our building.

Overall I agree. Be selective about free agents, especially in premium positions. The one big credit I will give Morgan is that he seems to be building younger. That is very smart.

Select free agents as mid-price players with high leadership and locker room skills with great practice commitments. Grab your stars and role players in the draft and have them molded by the vets who make up the kind of team you are trying to be.

With the right core of solid players, you can make a lot of progress farming up first and second round picks, getting five affordable years out of them and then moving on, either trading them away or grabbing compensatory picks when they leave. It's not flashy and doesn't make sense to the fantasy football crowd, but really, a team only needs one or two star quality players on it to make it big. Those two must be ones that are directly involved in every play, though, like a QB, DE, MLB or OT.

That being said, if your team's star player is a WR, you've got a problem, because it's a crap ton of money on a guy who might figure heavily into one third of your offensive plays.
