I thought the Lathan Ransom one was legit.  It wasn't super late, and I'm not sure what Latham could have done, but that was an absolutely shocking time to call a QB draw, and kudos to them for thinking of that. I think it was the correct call, but I don't think we can really pile on Lathan Ransom.  If we don't commit a penalty there, the clock probably runs out before they can clock it.

The one they called on DB, I don't know what he could have done differently. He's a massive human to be stopping and changing direction that quickly. He was already in the process of delivering that hit when Shough started to slide.

I love Bryce and I'm a big Bryce defender, but he's genuinely awful with this stuff. He does not hustle out of bounds, and he does not slide well. We never get these calls because he doesn't manage that part of the game well. I still think he's our franchise guy, but that's definitely an area for improvement.

The rule is good and helps keep QB's on the field, but they need to start penalizing quarterbacks that take advantage of it, as Mahomes is known to do. That will get rid of the nonsense. I also think we need some sort of adjustment for the late slide. Maybe make it like the old facemask rule. The 5 yard and the 15 yard variety.

NFL coaches do indeed sometimes call and / or design plays with an eye toward drawing a penalty.

You can go back as far as old clips of Marv Levy coaching the Chiefs to see evidence of that.

I have pretty much zero doubt that Shough's final run falls into that category.

For sure. and the announcers were talking constantly about what they were going to do with that snap of the ball, etc etc. That's one of the only plays you can run and have everybody close enough to the line of scrimmage to clock it quickly. Like I said, hats off to them. The saints are a well coached bunch.

Also this from our good buddy John Ellis...

Non-specific to the slide question, yesterday's officiating was the sh-ttiest I've seen all season.

Yes, 20 combined penalties was a ton. It made the game almost unwatchable.

I am kind of stunned there is any controversy here at all. This is exactly the kind of hit that the NFL keeps penalizing and its very clearly illegal.

It was an insanely undisciplined and stupid hit.

People are just bitching to bitch at this point.  You had video evidence of both bryce not getting a first and csw clearly off sides and people are still saying the game was rigged.  We played like poo on the whole for the most part and that typically is what happens especially on the road in a dome.  I mean for fugs sake you had one moron on here saying the NFL was using AI to help us lose.  Goddamn people.

I will say it again, you cannot fuging lead with your head of all things to a player that is on the ground especially a qb that just slide.   Its fuging insanity to think that is a legal hit as some on here are suggesting.

Brown on yesterday's calls...

He is basically stating the way it has been for 10+ years, though. poo, longer than that. They started this BS back in the Manning and Brady era to protect their biggest star QB's, especially after Brady blew his knee out on a low hit.

I get the anger from the defensive side of the ball, they keep tweaking rules to favor offensive players. That's about a 80/20 split during that timespan.

From the league standpoint, they want their biggest stars healthy and drawing interest and eyeballs. Nothing has changed. None of this is new.

I do think they need to tweak some rules on QB running and hits in the pocket. It shouldn't be such a judgement call. It is too open for fugery.

It was so insanely blantant live that I knew the flag was coming while he was still in fuging midair. Not even joking.

Ransom is far from the only dumbass who didn't perform today but you have to be smarter than that. Especially in that situation.
