I will not further hijack this thread, so this is it for me, as this is becoming more suited for draft talk.

When we let Burns go, well he is only so-so and we can find better pass rushers and more productive pass rushers.

We haven't. That isn't so much an endorsement on Burns, but more an indictment on our emphasis on pass rush.

To that end, we deserve what we have. 18 sacks. Virtually no pressure. The leader being our do-it-all seemingly only defensive player that makes an consistent impact on games. With something like 6 sacks.

It's a pathetic number for an NFL team to post. If we go wr, he better be the 2nd coming of Rice, Moss and T.O. to warrant a selection.

Well the people in charge thought they addressed that but are being proved wrong. Now it's a hope of development thing moving forward.

Burns wouldn't have that production here either this year. He only produced 1 year in his total time here like is for them this year. They also put more effort i to stopping the run vs rushing too.

TBH, I think we might have something in Coker as a decent possession WR but outside TMac, it's largely JAGs. It's a moderate potential and probably the lowest floor of any NFL roster outside of those two guys. Arguably even with those two guys.

It's easily the worst WR room just in the NFC South alone.

So, I do think it's still an extreme need. Perhaps behind other extreme needs but it's a position in pretty sad shape overall.

Maybe but then again how sure can we be when the offense is held to such a level to function? I agree your probably right.

I think extrem is oline, MLB  and QB followed by Dline. The rest are 'should look anywhere to keep upgrading' type situation.

Elite TE is what a Bryce Young QB needs--we get little out of that position.  Furthermore, our OL, the highest paid in the league, is ranked somewhere in the middle. Personally, I think TMac, Coker, Legette (to me, he just does not understand the position like he should--he plays a bit slow, does not feel the sidelines, and his route running is not great but has been improving.--still...)

IDK about what Bryce needs, per se. I posted up a thread with some utilization rates for Canales specifically, so I think there is legitimately a hard ceiling for TE impact in his offense.

You think that WR grouping is? I think you forgot to finish your thought on the sidebar.

This thread reminds of the November (Rams) prediction thread. Foretelling Stafford beating us seven ways to Sunday. Bottom line...no one knows especially this season. I channel the great Chris Berman here..... "That's.......why they play the games".

I think the OL is the position we should be in the best overall and really are. That's our best group outside of RB, although that will soon fall off dramatically with Dowdle likely leaving. That said, it's a group that should ALWAYS be adding assets in the draft to upgrade.

IMO, I would rank our position groups(worst at the top):

1. ILB

2. QB

3. EDGE

4. TE

5. WR

6. DL

7. S

8. CB

9. K/P

10. OL

11. RB

    • I guess I should have stipulated outside the sacred cow.   I complained from year one that Bryce should compete for and win the starting job on his own merit but no he was just handed it. I have been right there with everyone that wants competition.  But I don’t really have a huge problem with it for this season the way it has gone because where are the viable people we don’t have to trade for? I actually am okay with tiny hands Pickett because he is so close to Bryce arm strength wise and to be honest, skill wise. Probably. And it is only a one year deal.  That also takes I to account that the QB class is looking stacked next year and if Young fails miserably then we get either a reset or a real competition and there will be more guys that I would like looking at in the FA QB class next year as well.    I sort of accept where we are this year and look at it as a treading water year. I just want to get to next year with some clarity. More than anything. And they did empty out the room. Again, who was really there for us?  And I know it would not be a true competition at this point anyway. They are giving him the year, like it or not.    Also I don’t give a poo about winning games IF he sucks and or goes down after sucking because draft position and that stacked QB class.  And I want out from under him So Bad.     So I guess it is several factors that lessen my anxiety over his backup this particular season.    I am not trying to convince anyone, but you asked.
    • What happened to King? Was he a no show?
    • think these smaller Qb's are going to have a much harder time convincing an NFL team to draft them. not saying a smaller Qb under 6 feet tall will not make an NFL roster .it will most likely be a UDFA contract more or less prove it deal.NFL teams have been burnt time & time again investing in these small NFL Qbs & i think  teams are now finally starting to realize that investing in these smaller Qb's under 6 feet tall is simply a bad idea  ...just saying
