Cam gets defensive in an interview

A team shook Cam Newton up by asking him about why he disobeyed coaches at the end of the Nat'l Championship game. Not a big deal, he is just a kid, but interesting it was that incident that threw him for a loop. Wonder what exactly happened?

According to the source, an NFL assistant coach questioned Newton about why he disobeyed his coach's orders at the end of the BCS National Championship Game, when Newton ran a quarterback sneak at the end of the game rather than take the knee that he was instructed. Newton was not expecting the NFL to ask him about the incident, and did not have a favorable reaction to it, according to league sources. He got defensive, and even referred to it Saturday. Asked about the interviews, Newton said, "Each and every team keeps you on your toes."

i hate the fact that this is tossed up on ESPN.com with probably no vetting process. let the team evaluate his response to that question, don't make it a gd news story. this is why the team interviews are intimate settings. just bad form, bad journalism, and almost certainly gamesmanship, being leaked by an organization that likes Newton a LOT.

Oh wow, now I want to hear more about what happened. Honestly, I don't think sneaking is such a big deal, just say that it was an opportunity that you didn't want to miss, or at worse, a mistake you won't make again. I really don't think that the question should invoke anything overly defensive. Come to think of it, when I read that he threw his laptop out his window, I thought he panicked under pressure too. This is becoming too much of a theme for my liking.

From what I heard and read his interview with the media went very well...gantt refered to the third person thing but also said "kid has magnetism".

All things considered, it wasn't a bad performance. He made some mistakes. Admitted them. Comes off well. Kid has a magnetism.

I wouldn't say that was "Very well," but certainly didn't go poorly.

    • I dont think people realize how hard it is to find a consistent starting QB in the NFL. Byrce will not heart us to a SB but I do think he can manage to get us one or close..go all in on defense and change the Offensive passing game and play calls. I really think our biggest problem is our HC.  Take New Orleans QB for example, switch him and Bryce and I promise you it'll look similar or worse. New Orleans OC is levels ahead of Canales. And as far as the draft goes, in this division with as much rb talent as we face ..the answer...this guy:    Pick up a couple edge rushers in FA along with a corner and plug this guy in Rozeboom's spot. Defense solved. But only if we get a top tier rusher on that dline....jus saying
    • I think I'm going to the game in Los Angeles vs Paraguay, and the England / Croatia game here in Dallas since my mom is British.  For decent seats anywhere in the building(s) it looks like it will be upwards of $7k for the two games.  Insane. Just for perspective, you could buy field level EPL tickets for any one of the top sides in the league, and it would be 10% of the price you'll pay for crappy seats at the World Cup.
    • Meh… I knew this thread would turn into a Bryce/Tua comparison, when they couldn’t be further apart situations.   Dolphins catered there whole offense toward Tua, they brought in a coach that would run a Tua friendly offense, the went in got the best most explosive WR in the NFL and paired him the fastest WR in that years draft. Panthers have done the opposite, they went and got a Pete Carroll disciple who likes to run the ball under center, they drafted big slow WR who got little separation in college. Literally the polar opposite of Bryce’s scouting report coming out of Alabama.   Tua was a decent QB 2 years ago, but the concussions, lack of movement have caught up to him. He never had a great arm to begin with but now since he doesn’t want to get hit he’s taking the whole offense down with him.
