We need a new #1, #2 and #3 in Carolina.

all picking up Bryce’s 5th does is delays us from addressing the QB room.  Which is the most important room to address

Did you ignore the part where I said draft a guy? We aren’t getting one of the top 3 this year, he’s going to need to sit a bit. Unless you want to trade picks for a Mac Jones type which would be dumb with where we are

thats the point, in 90% of the cases a decision is made one way or another.  Running this back for 2 more years hoping he can get to top 15ish by the end of year 4 is crazy.  Because again after year 4 you have to make another decision while on the hook for 27 million.  It doesnt make a lick of sense

Right. So picking up the option is essentially a prelude to a big money extension. The concept of 1st rounders having that extra option year was to give teams the financial control over a prospect, with the assumption that the team was planning on keeping them and signing them to an extension off their rookie deal.

Teams are free to do a Jags-deal if the idea is that it might be more sensible economically to get the player wrapped up long-term earlier after the 3rd year, and subverting market forces that may cause values to go up. So it is a gamble if you think you are buying in on a player low and getting a deal that you may not secure 2 years down the road in many ways.

Pick it up and his trade value goes up, especially if he makes a run into the playoffs.

There's enough mystery there as to has the coaching been holding him back or has it been his physical portion.

There's going to be a coach or GM out there that's going to look at Baker Mayfield and Sam Darnold, look at the Panthers organization, and think Bryce might be worth a flyer if there's a two year inexpensive tryout period.

Maybe the Vikings, Dolphins or even Pittsburgh. Might even be a hail Mary attempt from Phoenix.

And maybe we do it and stick with him after a really strong showing in the playoffs, if we get there.

The biggest problem is that Bryce has had some pretty good performances, just enough to make a front office wonder, but we've also had some really dud coaching games, too. So is Bryce the problem or is it our coaching and game planning.

Hell, we don't even know, so other teams probably are looking at it and seeing that while the odds aren't good, there's a heck of a payoff if they are right.

No offense but picking it up basically makes his trade value tank.

Lamar is the only recent 1st round QB to play all 5 years of his 5th. The others were either cut or extended before the 5th year and those contracts were all massive. Bryce getting 55m a year would be insane.

he had already won a mvp and was in negotiations with the team the entire time.  A bit different.  Danny dimes would be a closer comp but he just played on his 4rth and the team stupidly gave him a massive deal.  You are who you are by year 3.

We need to flush the QB room in the offseason.

IMO, if we add no FA nor legit draft options(not a UDFA) to this QB room in the offseason, 100% of all information about Tepper, Morgan and Canales will be clear.

That "braintrust" will have conclusively proven they have zero idea what the fug they are doing.

the 5th works in the extension as its still cheaper then "market value"

Correct. Draft your future guy to sit behind Bryce and get rid of Dalton and bring in a traits guy as a backup

Draft a guy to develop and bring in a veteran starter who can at least make every throw the NFL requires a QB to be able to make from the pocket.

We're currently drastically limiting Canales' playbook to accommodate Young.

Trade Young or sit him as QB 3.
