I dunno about how big of an impact losing Icky is. He was a mauler in the run game when healthy but was always average in pass coverage and seemed to be playing hurt this year. Nijman performed well when he had to play.

You trust him for 17 games?   If Icky they probably have to draft someone and figure it out down the road

We regress but still win 7/8 games.  Maybe lower if we have to replace Icky.

Regress is actually hilarious, we’re an incredibly young team across the board including coaching. 7/8 games is our floor, this team will be back in the playoffs next season.

I mean none of the offensive linemen played 17 games. They need depth for all of the starters.

We were 7-3 in one score games.  That is not sustainable

As for young team we are in the middle of the nfl as far as age.  If that's young ten so be it

Its a good thing.  I'll take it.  This will affect the organization going forward even when/if we move on from Dave Canales.

Moving on from Canales would be an absolute idiot move. We finally have a team that’s shown continual progression under a coach, coming off a playoff appearance. Anyone that actually thinks Canales gets canned needs help.

I'm not talking short term.  I'm talking about after next year or beyond.  If you think Canales will be the coach here in perpetuity you are pretty naive.

Hyper fixating on an isolated statistic is really revealing. The statistic I prefer is wins, overcomplicate whatever you choose. Also, once again context is incredibly important. The average age of an NFL team as a whole does not tell the actual story. We are young in key positions, QB,WR,DE,LB we are brought down by old backups like Andy Dalton and special teams players like JJ Jansen. This is a young team and it is far easier to project growth rather then regression.

Yes naivety is wanting to returning to hiring and firing a coach every other year and can the second year coach who has shown continual progression! Sorry I didn’t get get the memo we should return to acting like the Browns and the Jets, that coaching ideology has clearly worked out for them

When did I say that?  What do you think will happen if we win 5 games next year?

You said that when you made the point Canales is not the long term coach here. Am I missing something, that’s how you suggesting Canales will be gone after next season. Also using a complete hypothetical as an argument is utterly pointless, yeah if we win 5 games next season that would lower Canales long term coaching odds here. But, why would you assume a total regression this guy almost doubled our win totals from last season. Assuming a regression of 3 wins is a flawed argument.
