Gabbart and Mallet clearly the top two QB's

I get the impression from what I've read that Locker looked better than Mallett at the combine.

Mallett did get good reviews, as did Kaepernick and Taylor.

Doesn't make me change my mind though. I still don't want a quarterback in this draft.

Just goes to show that you have to take some of this with a grain of salt. Locker stunk at the Senior Bowl. Then did well today.

Keeping in mind that i don't have any real knowledge of the position or how to evaluate it, Mallet looked the best to me from the throwing drills.

The real thing that shocked me is every year you read about how these kids make or break themselves at the combine and to me it was impossible to see how you could make a real decision based on watching a few reps. The QBs threw what 20-25 passes total? I can see why a repeatedly people said it doesn't count for much and how you look less at where the kids are, but looks for signs of where they could be.

Cam definitely didn't do himself any favors though.

Do you not want a QB in the entire draft, or just with the first pick?

Exactly. Why are poeple even lobying for Mallet, Newton or Gabbert with our #1 overall pick? You know we don't HAVE to pick a QB and we don't HAVE to reach with the pick.

I do want a QB in the draft but if they are basically all projects in one sense or another there is no sense in over spending for anyone. I know you guys want to takes risks and are tired of always going to safe route and normally I'd agree. I know you guys want a QB but don't get your judgment clouded, look at the draft, look at the prospects, this time it would be smartest to just go the safe route add some elite talent to the team.

Stop the QB nonsense, yes it is a huge need but this draft class isn't worth what we have for the size of the risk.

As someone in KC who watches and hears a good amount of Big 12 football and has seen Gabbert play live, I absolutely do NOT get the hype. I support Carolina and will give anyone they draft the benefit of the doubt, but I see no way the Panthers take him at #1.

The only QB I'd want at 1 is Newton. Any of the others are out of the question to me.

I'm not sold on Newton either, but that doesn't mean I'm going to pretend someones else is better.

Newton is not the top QB in this draft. Guys like you work for Al Davis or Matt Millen and ruin franchises

Did you actually watch any of the combine todya? Or, are you still just talking out of your ass.

Newton looked TERRIBLE with his throws. His accuracy and consistency was bad.

Combine that with the fact that he has NEVER shown the ability to read defenses adn go through progressions in the passing game, mean that he is a HUGE project.

He is the flavor of the year....plain and simple. He is YEARS away from being anywhere ready to start in the NFL.

Everyone was raving how fast and athletic he is. Well, his 40 time was only 2 one-hundreths faster than Gabbert.

But, the newton net-huggers will come out with a new reason that a raw athlete should be taken #1. Pathetic.

Cam Newton really could be something special.... but the reality is so could a number of the quarterbacks in this draft.

But do we really want to invest our #1 in could be? Sure, there's risk at every position and with every player, but the more transition time a player needs the more time imo there is for a screw up.

I dunno. I do like the upside on both Newton and Gabbert. Hell, I like Gabbert quite a bit. But I wouldn't take him first overall, and nor would I take Newton.

Settle down Francis. You must be listening and comprehending with your ass because I don't want a QB with the first pick. Somebody needs to remind you dorks that nobody here has any decision making power so there is no need to get all bitchy and whiney about it.

    • I originally hated the Miller deal but with the cap projected to rise nearly $10M next season the Canes struck some pretty good deals between Miller and Ehlers. Most of the team is locked in for the next few years. Nikishin will need an extension probably in the $6M AAV range. And Blake will need one if we don’t move him. Personally I’d move Blake, picks, and any prospect not named Nikishin/Nadeau/Artamonov for McTavish as I don’t see any any of the big time players moving teams next year. Realistically the Hurricanes should just target Gustavsson next year to fix the goal tending issue. But I’m all for moving Blake, picks, and prospects for McTavish this year. Ehlers - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - McTavish - Stankoven Martinook - Staal - Carrier Hall - Kotkaniemi - Robinson Jost - Jankowski Slavin - Miller Nikishin - Chatfield Gostisbehere - Walker Reilly Andersen Kochetkov I’d do Blake, Felix-Unger-Sorum, and 27 2nd for McTavish.
    • Very true on the length but stuff like this is never where we shine. We aren’t a good team at drafting.
    • Homerism aside, the more I see from Dan, the more impressed I am.  His player evaluation instincts. Last year his 2 premier FA signings, Hunt and Lewis COMPLETELY changed the line and I have a feeling his success in choosing blue chip guys will continue.  Look at the panthers’s rep for FA signings in the past. By and large, it’s been guys 1 year past their prime who had an injury and suckered our GM in to a crippling contract. We never get nice things. When was the last time this team signed 2 young blue chip studs  in the same offseason to contracts worthy of their impact? Ever?  Im telling y’all, players respect and trust Morgan.
