I've been really warming up to Allen here of late. I'm usually not a big fan of off the ball LBs in the 1st but if we could get another impact LB who doubles as the QB of the defense... I mean that sounds very tempting.

My only gripe with Allen is I just don’t think he will be BPA #19. If Dan and co. do select him there I wouldn’t hate it but I will question if someone of Allen’s profile can be found in day 2.

As a pure player, honestly I agree. But doubling as that QB of the defense on the field might push him over the top and make it worth it over say a Hill or Golday in the 2nd, especially if we don't think one of those guys will he there at #51 which I think is very possible.

A friend of mine who follows SEC football says he thinks Allen was a just a good LB on a great defense but as you said if his interview process goes well and he is found to have the intangibles you mentioned then you get him day 1.

If his on the field QBing of the defense helped it be a great defense, sign me up. We'd all love another Luke but I'd settle for a lesser version. And if this kid has that type of football mind, what better mentor could you ask for than Luke Kuechly. Even if he's not that type of impact after the snap I'd just love to have that defensive QB again, especially one being mentored by Luke.

WHAT IM HEARING AT THE COMBINE - DAY 2:

* Ty Simpson is the runaway QB2, and might go as high as the mid-first round.
* A second school of thought has emerged: Caleb Downs could be

Ty Simpson's stock rising would greatly benefit the #Panthers

1) If he goes ahead of Carolina, a player they want has a better chance of falling to them

2) Teams might be interested in trading for their 19th overall pick

Caleb downs could be what?

And someone craving Simpson and him on the board at 19 is the exact scenario I have been praying for.  Get another 2nd and a first for next year.

The Simpson hype is just something I can't wrap my head around. I can't see drafting a guy in the 1st whose absolute ceiling looks to be Kirk Cousins.

    • One thing about it, he's not thinking about retiring. I found it odd that some Huddlers were taking rumors and running with them, imagining a slow down and "up-playing" injuries. Moton feels great and is still in his prime according to him, and his game is still indicative of his thoughts.  Sure, it may ultimately come down to economics, but I am sure that everyone involved is motivated to keep him in Charlotte.
    • I think the knee stuff with Moton has been blown way out of proportion. The exact quote was “It’s chronic stuff. Most linemen deal with it. But it’s just figuring out what we can do to make sure it’s limited and I’m still able to explode off it, which right now I can and I feel like I can in the future,” After a while, you start learning more about it and what can we do to make sure it’s as little of an issue as possible. I feel like I’m moving like I was when I was younger.” I don't view that as a guy who's saying his knees are on their last leg I see that as a 10-year NFL olineman saying that obviously after 10 years of playing a really physical sport, he's never truly gonna be 100% healthy again and he's gonna need to spend more time with the training staff to ensure his body can continue to perform at a high level. I think Moton has another 3 to 5 years left if he wants to continue playing.
    • So much crying. Tiresome. All of you should have had enough time to come to terms with the team picking up his 5th year...
