It's laughable really. The Panthers are the only team in the league I can think of that lets their best players walk and gets nothing in return. More proof that Hurney is just a numbers guy. This team needs a football guy in the front office.

it's actually more of a tribute to the quality of their drafting.

Unless it is Denver and Fox, what big bidding war will there be. Portis was released from Washington because he only played 13 games in the last 2 years. Williams only played in 19 games the past 2 years and yet 6 games means the difference between a bidding war and no one wanting you???

Sure Williams is younger and more productive than Portis but I would think a reasonable contract will land him if we want to spend the money.

at certain positions. this is also not building through the draft aspect. gb and pitt dont let there top players walk for FREE.

unless he takes a huge pay cut, green bay is going to let AJ hawk walk this year. for free.

pitt very well could lose ike taylor this year.

players hit free-agency, that's a reality of the nfl. williams isn't gone yet. what other players has the FO let walk? Peppers? That was inevitable.

Pay cut for what? we have plenty to spend. now im not saying throw the bank at the guy, but he should be paid. aj hawk will not leave gb and ike taylor is not good.its just the steelers corners are that bad.

Then Charles Johnson can be tendered? I was under the impression he has 4 years, DW has five. I must have misinterpreted something.

Compared to what other teams are losing, we could be OK. Lose a DW but gain a Rice, for example. Does the upgrade exceed the loss. Absolutely.

DWill has already said he wants to be back here Zod. It also seems he, along with TD, and a select few others have already been told they'd be taken care of once a CBA was done.

I've been saying JR has been being cheap to prove a point in the labor dispute since before last season, but he does seem to take care of his own; and I just don't see us letting another hall-of-fame type talent walking away with us getting nothing in return like we did Pep.

I wasn't in the last CBA meeting, but from what I've read, I am pretty sure that they aren't close to resolving anything. Maybe this is one of the issues that is still being debated on as well as the many others? I'm going to wait until we have a new CBA in place before I read too much into any future CBA speculation.

What Zod is saying reflects the business side of the NFL. DW has one contract left, and it won't be gigantic. He will not be offered nearly as much here as elsewhere. A team that needs a back will bid high, like we would a QB or DT. He would be foolish to turn his back on $8 million per for $6 million per, for example.

In addition, the Panthers would be wise to use the money elswhere too, since we have 3 backs who can average 5 yards per carry (Stewart, Goodson, and Sutton--averaged 5.5 last season in limited duty). Why keep 4 backs and neglect needs at DT, TE, or the OL? Great teams have balance and the fewest weaknesses. Having a garage with 4 great muscle cars is nice, but you can only drive one at a time.

    • Per Bill Barnwell  Vikings bring back a familiar face Vikings get: WR Adam Thielen Panthers get: 2026 sixth-round pick, 2027 seventh-round pick A reunion between Thielen and his former team seems too easy. The Vikings are struggling with injuries at wide receiver and a potential Jordan Addison suspension. The Panthers want to see what they have with their younger wideouts, and Hunter Renfrow's emergence in camp as a potential fourth or fifth option could squeeze a roster spot for Thielen, who doesn't play special teams. The problem is Thielen's $6.25 million base salary. The Vikings obviously would prefer the Panthers cut the 34-year-old and pick him up for free, but Carolina already paid Thielen a $1.5 million roster bonus earlier in the offseason, suggesting it expected to have him. His salary isn't yet guaranteed, but it will become so if he's on the roster in Week 1, leaving the Panthers until then to make a decision. If he does get released, he isn't likely to get anything close to $6.25 million from another team, so he also is facing some uncertainty. All sides involved probably would need to give a bit to make a mutually advantageous deal work. The Panthers would eat $1.5 million of Thielen's contract, getting two of the three picks the Vikings got from the Jets in the Harrison Phillips trade in return. Thielen would take a $1 million pay cut in return for having the remaining $3.8 million guaranteed. The Vikings cleared out almost exactly that much when they made the Phillips trade, allowing them to absorb what's left of Thielen's contract as part of the deal. https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/46053274/nfl-preseason-trades-2025-team-offers-players-draft-picks-contracts
    • From JoeBucsFan. Teams don't usually waste 2nd round picks like that. Kind of sounds like they think he just doesn't belong in the NFL.
