Article That I Believe May Be Connected To Cam Chatter Yesterday *Theory*

According to sources close to Draft Headquarters, the Carolina Panthers have one name in mind that they are hoping to use the first overall draft choice on in the 2011 NFL Draft. That name is Auburn quarterback Cam Newton.

From what we have been told, the Panthers are very high on the Heisman Trophy and National Championship-winning quarterback from the Tigers. The Panthers secretly are “hoping to see Cam do well this offseason,” as to earn the support of the fan base to take Newton with the first pick.

Arguably the most high-potential, high-risk player in this year’s draft, Newton has the type of talent that just doesn’t come around every year. With a need for a face of the franchise (or “entertainer and icon”) as well as the upside and potential of incumbent starter Jimmy Clausen not looking so bright, Cam has become the one player the Panthers have turned their attention to.

"At this point, no player has proven that they are worth the first overall pick. However, the Carolina Panthers are hoping that Cam Newton can prove that he is worthy of the pick."

In one year, Newton won the National Championship with a "mediocre cast at Auburn," as well as came back from 21-points down against an Alabama team that is filled to the brim with future NFL stars. In 2010, Newton threw for 2,854 yards, 30 touchdowns, and just seven interceptions with a 66% completion percentage. Add in that he rushed for 1,473 yards and 20 touchdowns, and according to a long-time NFL scout, "this kid is special." -Shawn Zobel

Yesterday's Tweets:

The more people I talk to in the league, the more I get the feeling that #Auburn QB Cam Newton ends up going first overall...-Wes Bunting
A lot of talk surrounding Cameron Newton going First Overall in #nfldraft to the #Panthers. I've been preaching that since January. #NFL -Ryan Lownes
I believe the #Panthers will take Cam Newton or Blaine Gabbert after hearing they were down on Fairley. They do like Bowers, but injury ?'s. - Chris Steuber
Just a thought is all. I'd like to know his source.

I just had a thought maybe it's Gantt lol

It's a humorous figure of speech writers use sometimes. Essentially it means "this is my opinion" or "what I'm getting from what I hear/read in the press".

It'd be like me saying "a source close to Mr. Scot has reported..."

Would make sense. There was an abnormal amount of chatter yesterday. All quite today though.

And I have to say it bc i have all day........ smokescreen :willy_nilly: :willy_nilly:

Its obvious that these misleading information was purposely put out by Hurney. It kills me that any sane person can really believe that Carolina would draft Cam Newton.

    • He's handing off play calling duties to fuging Brad Idzik as well so, either that mouth breather can run the playbook and Canales can grow as an all around head coach or it will be a horrible decision and both of them and BY can screw off. I'm fine with that as long as it isn't just another excuse for BY to get another year with another coach worthy of working around his limitations as a qb.
    • Not only for Andersen but the whole team, having not beat the Habs this season before tonite.  Shows them that they aren't jinxed.
    • I understand why people say things like it could be worse in relation to Tepper but it just doesn't jive for me. Are the optics bad? Yes. Would I want her to be the owner of my team? No. But I mean she's only been owner for a year and the Colts overall are a better run organization. As far as I know they've also never had the distinction of having the worst win percentage in all of professional sports either. Tepper has owned this team for 8 years and about the only thing that has been consistent has been the ability to continue to find different ways to achieve new lows. Even now people are saying things are different yada yada but we said these same things at certain points under Rhule Fitterer and Reich. I'm going to wait to see how the rubber meets the road this upcoming season before I make any strong conclusions about anything in relation to the longevity under this franchise going forward.
