Panther top 6 all time busts...

I don't agree with this list, but the media makes up all type of poo about us that sounds good to them every day and nobody challenges them because nobody cares...

6. DE Everette Brown, 43rd overall, 2009

Alright, so we are going with an active player. However, the Panthers traded its first-round pick in 2010 to select Brown. He was expected to step in and replace Julius Peppers in 2010, but started only two games and recorded only 3.5 sacks. He still has a chance to redeem himself, but he needs to do so in a hurry.

Could have had: For fun, let’s say that the Panthers kept the pick, took WR Dez Bryant in 2010, and you wonder if the quarterbacks — Matt Moore or Clausen — would have had a better chance to succeed last season.

5. DT Jason Peter, 14th overall, 1998

The Panthers thought they had the anchor of their defensive line when Peters fell to them. But a chronic neck stinger cost him his career in 2000.

Could have had: The Panthers certainly were not alone here, but they were one of the teams that passed on WR Randy Moss. Though, I am not sure how a locker room with Moss and Kerry Collins would have functioned in 1998.

4. CB Rashard Anderson, 23rd overall, 2000 :puke:

Anderson lasted only two seasons in the NFL before being suspended by the league for violating the league’s substance abuse policy in 2002. He was reinstated in 2003, but he has not played in the league since.

Could have had: The Panthers didn’t miss out on any superstars, thankfully. But LB Keith Bulluck could have been a nice addition.

3. WR Rae Carruth, 27th overall, 1997 :incazzato:

Carruth was a promising receiver who had a nice rookie season, but injuries hurt him over the next two years. His NFL career ended when he was convicted of conspiracy to commit first-degree murder along with other charges.

Could have had: CB Sam Madison who went to the Dolphins in the second round, would have been a nice addition to that team.

2. RB Tim Biakabutuka, eighth overall, 1996 :(

Biakabutuka was one of the most well-known players entering the draft in 1996, having made a name for himself at the University of Michigan. Injuries curtailed his career, and his best NFL season came when he rushed for 718 yards and six touchdowns in 1999.

Could have had: The Houston Oilers grabbed Eddie George with the 14th overall pick. The Panthers took the wrong side of that rivalry.

1. QB Kerry Collins, fifth overall, 1995 :seeya::seeya::banghead:

Collins did lead the Panthers to the 1996 NFC Championship Game and was selected to the Pro Bowl that season. So he certainly had his moments. But the first pick in franchise history had a rather disastrous career plagued by off-the-field troubles and he was out of Carolina before the 1998 season ended. You want a bit more out of the player expected to be the face of your franchise.

Could have had: The Panthers had the first pick in the draft, and traded it to the Bengals who selected Ki-Jana Carter. But imagine if the Panthers had held on to the top pick and selected QB Steve McNair instead.

You can't include E. Brown on that list, his career is far from over and he is still improving.

IMO you can't have any Panthers bust list without including Shelton and Jarrett. I know both were 2nd rounders, but Jarrett was expected by fans and media to be a number 1 receiver. And the fact that Shelton's career was so unremarkable that people overlook him on these lists, shows how horrible of a pick he was.

Edit: Damn beat like gimp horse.

Oh, definitely Dwayne Jarrett deserves to be on that list.

But Shelton... did he really get a shot? I mean, I know he played lackluster in a couple games, but wasn't he just a 4th string RB?

well, he was a 2nd round pick so you'd expect he'd be more than a 4th string RB.

Too early to judge Brown. Collins was a good player here until he called Moose a bad word, and is still playing in the NFL. Biakabatuka had a devastating injury.

The Carruth, JP, and Anderson selections are correct.

I would add Jarrett near the top of the list.

Yeah - Shelton is a must on this list too.

that's why I say nobody cares about our team and 95% of them don't know poo, they must have forgotten that DJ was a second round pick, Shelton... c'mon man!!

even atiyyah ellison, though he was picked in the 3rd round i think, is more of a bust than everette brown, who is still making his way in the league. the panthers traded up to get ellison, and cut him in training camp of his rookie season. talk about a flame out.

    • Actually that 4400 was based on a 16 game season to match Bryce's 16 games this year. Your offense has to be to drive the ball when it matters. Bryce doesn't do that with any level of consistency. If you're building a team that isn't focused on your QB, then fine. Then there's no need to pay Bryce as a franchise QB because literally anyone else will do. If you're going to pay him 50m plus per season, you have to be able to put the team on his shoulders and know he's going to carry the load. So far, when the pressure is on to get it done, Bryce has fallen miserably short of the target. 4-6 to finish out the season and 0-2 when all we need is a win to secure a playoff spot isn't stepping up and proving yourself as a franchise QB. I'd say it's quite the opposite.  There isn't a single coach in this league that would take Bryce over Burrow and very few if any that would take Bryce over Prescott. Hurts didn't have to throw in 2025 because Philly's defense was disgusting and Saquan had a MVP season. But then again, Hurts has shown that he can when it counts, and then there's his signature. Philly runs the tush push to lethal perfection, but that's a play we can't even consider with Bryce. You used 3 QBs from teams that had no defense to show QB stats don't always matter. When we had the worst defense in the NFL, we didn't see Bryce step up and carry the offense and put up gaudy numbers in a losing season because we were playing catch up. It was pretty much the opposite.  What have we seen from Bryce consistently to consider offering him a top 10 NFL franchise QB level contract? At the end of the day, that's all that matters.
    • I mean, what fanbase has high expectations when you have a QB like Bryce leading your team?
    • If you pay Bryce $50M a year you greatly limit your ability to put the type of team around him you need to have to have a chance to win. THAT is the problem. Hell, we can't win with him on a rookie contract. How the hell are we supposed to start winning with him paying him like a franchise QB and having to make tough roster decisions to accommodate his cap hit?
