Here's a "what if"

Eli Manning didn't win his Super Bowl until after the Giants let go of Shockey and Tiki Barber left.

A rookie QB with Shockey and Moss? Seriously?

Shockey missed the Superbowl becuase he had a broken leg. They hadn't let go of him. He played 14 games that season and was traded the Summer after the Superbowl.

But yeah, this Moss thing isn't even an interesting hypothetical. There's no reason whatsoever to go after a guy like that with what they are trying to do and no reason why he'd ever want to come here.

Actually, if you look purely at the football aspect, it makes some sense.

He's one of the best longball threats available in an offensive attack where the longball is an important weapon. And given the general feelings about him in the league, whoever gets him next year might get him cheaper than he's ever been before.

Unfortunately, you can't divorce Randy Moss the football player from Randy Moss the headcase, so taking him would be a huge risk.

But I'm not even happy with the Shockey thing.

Well, that's kinda the point

You're not alone in that, which is why I wonder how people will react if we sign someone with an ever bigger ego than Shockey.

Do we continue to trust that Rivera can handle The Amazing Colossal Egos. or do we start to wonder?

The Shockey thing didn't surprise me that much. It was obvious they wanted a classic receiving TE for the new offense. Shockey came at a good price on a one year deal and from everything his former team mates have said, he is very well liked by his fellow players.

Do we continue to trust that Rivera can handle The Amazing Colossal Egos. or do we start to wonder?

Were there any issues with Shockey in New Orleans? What other egos other than Smith, who he inherited, are there?

There is always wonder. But I am not going to doubt unless I see that I should.

I'd expect Fred Graves opinion to go a long way in that discussion, if it ever came up.

If Graves said "we can fix this kid" then it might get consideration.

However, if Graves said "stay away from this POS" then I think there'd be no further discussion.

The second option seems far more likely based on what we know, but we don't really know, do we?

Now that you mention it- he was sitting in a private box up top during the SB. Regardless, you get my point.

I'd still rather have Ochocinco- might actually see Steve Smith have some fun again alongside his JuCo teammate.

No really. I can only guess your point was that he was bad news for them and then they cut him or something and that propelled them to the Super Bowl. Fact is he broke his leg.
