Source: Panthers leaning to stick w/Clausen & pick Dareus

Yeah but do you think anyone's agent at this point knows who is where on our board?? Doubtful. That is A LOT of leverage and knowledge for anyone's agent to be in the know. They are more likely the last to know what direction a team is going.

Ah, but you're missing the point.

Agents don't know who teams are likely to take at this point. But depending on who their clients are, they may have a vested interest in making it seem like Team A is really high (or really low) on Player X. That's part of the game.

Just a few years back, "league source" had Pat Yasinskas writing that Mike McCoy was a lock to be the Panthers new OC. Guess who "league source" turned out to be.

That's why "league source" should always be taken with a grain of salt, especially this time of year.

That is what I said in my original post Scot. :banghead:

the 8th ranked defense in the league, is surely not as big as a problem as the 32nd ranked offense, QB play was horrible

And a rookie qb is going to improve that? Certainly not by himself. Improved oline play from our good linemen will improve the offense. Our running game, actually working in the beginning of the season will imporve our offense. Our receivers steppping up and playing like they should will improve our offense, even with a qb already on the roster leading the charge.

You fail. Case closed.

Looked again, and you did (credit from me) but I wanted to get a little deeper on that point. Apologies if it was poorly worded.

What I really wanted to get across is that the agents have a vested interest in this. It's not just that they don't know. It's that they have reason to try and make people believe things that may not necessarily be true.

I'm sure sam bradford improved the rams offense last season almost getting them into the playoffs year one. And before you say no quarterback in this class is as good as bradford how can you tell? Bradford at one point was behind jake locker and jimmy clausen in alot of scouts minds.

The extreme emotions in this thread are palpable...

None of our QBs are as bad as they showed last year. You can think that Moore turned into a turnover machine if you want, and that Clausen is as bad as he looked and will never get any better, and that Pike is incapable of gaining weight all you want, but it's not so. Last year we had a lot of organizational problems that went well beyond one position, and the wheels just fell off. QB is the most visible position on offense, and a lot of people act like we would have been just fine with an average guy back there.

Clausen will probably improve a lot in his second year. And he can play the Coryell (if you still insist he's a WCO, please please please do a 30 second search on Youtube and watch his deep balls first?). Moore has developed a fairly nice deep ball, and should be healed by the time Training Camp breaks. And Pike is probably still a little weak, but he was supposed to be this guy with all the intangibles you ever wanted coming out of college.

I'm not saying that all three of those guys are capable of being great, or even good. But we don't need them all to be--we just need one. And the chances are fair to good that an off-season of study, working out, and learning from what happened in 2010 will actually be good for one of them. Toss a veteran backup into the mix, and you'll probably be pretty happy with what comes out of camp at that position.

Even if we do take Newton or Gabbert or Mallett, they're still going to have to adjust to the speed of the game, and learn to play under center, and learn an entirely new playbook. Our current guys just have to do the latter, and each one is probably studying it now.

So if this latest rumor is true, step off the ledge. We've got a new OC, who has actually had some success at the position before (unlike Davidson). We have a new QB Coach, who's helped a couple of 'meh' prospects play pretty well (Fiedler and Garrard). We will hopefully have Geoff Otah back, who should combine with Schwartz to give us a monster right side to run behind. Williams will be back. LaFell and Gettis will have had a year. We have a Tight End who's a genuine receiving threat. And we have coaches who will be highly interested in molding the offense into a cohesive unit that's built to get better and better over time.

I don't think we're suddenly going to have an offense that's feared throughout the league. But I don't see another 32nd ranked unit, no matter which of our current QBs gets the start.

Good post, with the exception that I do believe Clausen is much better in a WCO.

Okay, just let me know when Dareus wins us a game.

I'm not as big of a fan of gabbert as you are but, you have a very good point. As great of a player as Dareus is he is just a TACKLE! his impact on the game is small compared to quarterback. He is not an elite pass rusher which brings his stock in my mind down even futher. Why no one seems to think he has just as good of a chance of busting as a QB is unheard of to me.

If he is not going to improve our pass rush along with stuffing holes i don't want him.

In my mind, you have to evaluate who can win you games, and then look at your roster and see if you already have a game winner at that position, no need to draft that position. DT doesn't win games, DE, CB, QB, WR, RB can win games.

So in my mind.

1. Gabbert

2. PP

3. Locker

4. Green

5. Bowers
