Cam Newton: Risk vs Reward.

Cam Newton is a great athelete and Cam Newton has a big arm but does that make him a franchise QB? I wish it was that easy to use that criteria by itself to make the decsion to draft him but its not. A franchise qb has to be the ultimate student of the position and have a burning to desire to win.

He has to be a leader and have mental toughness.He has to be mature enough not to let big money and the temptations that go with it change his priorities of being a student of the position.

I am not saying to draft him or not but rather evaluate him on something other than his physcial attributes.

We want a guy with all those attributes.Think about guys that did not have the intandibles and failed their teams and fans.A few names come to mind:

Kerry Collins (at Carolina),J Russell,Mike Vick(Atlanta version)Vince Young.Matt Leinart,Ryan Leaf just to name a few.

All PAC-10 qb's make me nervous. 7 of the last 9 (not including Sanchez, i think it is still too early) PAC-10 qb's drafted in the first round have been busts. Only Rogers and Palmer have worked out. Some highlights include Harrington, Boller, Leaf. It may have been different back in the day (elway) but lately a PAC-10 qb hasn't been a high percentage pick.

Of course SEC qb's haven't fared all that well either (outside of Mannings).

So moral of the story is every QB makes you nervous?

My signature in November was Steve Smith Is The Greatest Panther of All Time. Pryor has never been in my sig or avy, but Cam has since October. I like Pryor and think he can be a good NFL QB, but he's not coming out this season, Cam is and is a better prospect. Im willing to bet you and Chef have liked or supported more than 2 different white QBs in your lifetime. Was it just because they are white? Thats what you get when you lower the convo down to "you only want him cuz he's black" that you two are implying.

I dont like him as the first pick of this or any draft, but you were touting Pryor most of last season so stop acting like you werent and he was in your signature. I really don't mind risking the number one pick on a risky guy, I do however mind taking a qb with many off the field issues with the number one pick, don't you think those issues will get a tad worse after we pay him upwards to 50 million dollars.

Hell I think Cam's off the field issues are worse than Mallett's.

I'll take Gabbert, Locker, and Mallett 1,000 times over at number 1 before Newton.

I sure do agree with you, I'd take Gabbert over Newton anyday.

We'd be getting a better player both on and off the field.

This was the first page I posted on in that tread. Nowhere did I say Newton was high on the Panthers board because he is black (which you claim I did).

Next page I posted on and still no mention of Cam being highly rated because he was black. I even asked you why Cam is better than Luck

KT explain why Newton is better than Luck without saying white or black. Every post I have seen of yours discussing the two you have always mentioned race. As long as you continue to bring up race, people have reason to call you racist. I haven't watched much of either Luck or Newton. So consider me a blank slate. Breakdown why Newton is the better option.
