That is also their choice. Vets, Firefighters, Cops don't get drafted so they are aware of the dangers associated. FYI Cops and Firemen have huge unions that look out for them just like the players.

Are you suggesting that players don't make a choice because they are drafted and don't know the "dangers"? Really? Seriously?

The players have to declare their intent to enter the draft... I believe that's where the "Choice" is made.

As far as them knowing the risks, I'm sure the countless stories of players getting hurt, or knowing players that got hurt in college and high school, is plenty enough information to know they are putting their bodies on the line.

Sheesh.

. . . I think he is saying cops, veterans, and firemen choose their careers of their own accord the same way that the players do.

Until the military gets million dollar contracts for deployments, patrols, combat, rescue ops, etc, then I have no sympathy. These guys peruse glory and riches, or men and women in uniform peruse freedom for us and others. How many NFL vets are sporting prosthetic limbs because theirs was blown off on fporeign soil for little more than minimum wage?

What about firefighters, cops and medics who go go into highly dangerous situations everyday, not just on Sundays to the benefit of others?

I'm not admonishing the owners either, but this is what's wrong with professional sports and our culture as a whole.

One immediately springs to mind. He lost a lot more than a limb tho.

You know really thinking on it the way these players are forced to play football, against their will, is simply a travesty of the highest order. I mean, I just know that if given the option many would become an accountant. or would work at an animal shelter or become teachers or firemen or policemen etc.

But alas, Society has pushed them into careers that are dangerous for their health. Society has said to these poor, warriors "You have no choice! You must risk your safety!" and become multi millionaires in the process.

I thought this was America. I thought people had a choice. This whole situation makes me sick.

I thank God for this lockout and hope it is permanent. Only then will these brave, brave men be free of the slavery that is football.

I lol'd at this

No, I think you missed Jackofalltrades point.

Yeah, Firefighters have unions, but do they get compensated anywhere close to what a Pro-Player gets? Are Pro-players in anywhere as close to being in the same risk category as a Firefighter? Do you see a nationwide strike by firefighters?

But please point out some more irrelevancies as usual. Don't let me stop you.

Still way off.

So, I pretty much shot down your response, and now we're going to play the mystery logic card?

. . . I think he is saying cops, veterans, and firemen choose their careers of their own accord the same way that the players do.

If Stroupe-a-loop is right, then my response is still 100% spot on.

If you care to explain it further, be my guest.

Its not hate.

Its not being fooled into thinking that they are somehow special and deserving of something that a guy who spent his life welding boat hulls together isn't.

Those guys breathing the fumes from welding and cutting metals suffer sever respiratory illness too. The difference is they didn't make multi million dollars doing it.

It should be noted that none of us are on a coal mining message board talking about how much we enjoy what they do and we aren't down at the police station asking for autographs of our favorite patrolman every week.

Comparing professional sports to any other industry is pretty crazy.

Not taking sides, just saying.

supply and demand dictates what they make. Just as in all jobs.

Really? I wasn't in a union when I was a fireman or a paramedic.

My brother works for Concord Police Dept and he's not part of a union; I must be missing something.

    • Not sure who said it first, but Tepper is the correct answer. Still, I'm gonna go with Kasay keeping it inbounds. If, you subscribe to the butterfly effect version of time travel consequences.... When we win SBXXXVIII everybody's lives change: Moose never breaks his leg, We win it all again in 05. Tommy Jone is unknown and Peppers stays home, Champs once more 2008. No artificial pig heart turning JR into a creepy weirdo, no lockout, no Clausen. Fox and Jake ride off into the sunset on their own terms. No 2-14, no #1 pick. But, no laptop, no Blinn, 3 years behind The Golden Calf of Bristol, we still get Cam. JR let's him grow his locs like he always wanted, Smitty sees Cam in a new light. Dreads swinging, (and Smitty with his 3 Lombardis behind him) Cam is old enough to get those calls. No Manning narrative, Cotchery TD, PI against Talib on Philly Brown, 10,000 RTP calls and Kony Ealy SB50 MVP. No Jeans Fridays, no Tepper. KB doesn't slip on his own meatsweat mid-route in SD, Cam becomes the 1st QB to win 10 straight SBs. Retiring after being elected 47th president of the US of A, Cam ushers in the Permanent Proletarian Revolution across the globe, Xi Jinping bows in awe. "ẄøŘƙƐṛ§ őF ŧĤə ŵØRłð, ŮŊÏŦƐ!!!"
    • Yeah your right the owner was copping hand shandies while all this was going down
    • I mean not surprised the Patriots took him in and aren't trying to push him out. They've been the most morally bankrupt team in the NFL for a long while. Wouldn't be surprised if Vrabel has his own dirt on Kraft/Brady and other assholes from that organization over the last couple decades.
