I don't get all the hate about Gabbert in a vertical passing game. Against the best competition he faced last year he completed a higher percentage of vertical passes than Ryan Mallett. Literally the only category Mallett did better than Gabbert in, completion wise, was over 30 yards, where Gabbert just didn't attempt hardly any passes (like one a game, heh). Previous year he did, though... last year they just didn't have receivers to stretch the field.

Now, Gabbert's not the best deep threat in this draft but I think it is flat out wrong to say he can't function vertically... You do not need elite arm strength to run an AC offense, you just need the ability to stretch the field.

this is the break down on all top qbs in the 2011 draft class http://bit.ly/ecLz2d

PFT's using this story to take another shot at Sorenson (link)

Last week, Tom Sorensen of the Charlotte Observer seemed to be convinced that the Panthers had settled on Cam Newton as the player who’ll be taken with the top pick in the draft.

Now, Steve Reed of CarolinaGrowl.com writes that support for Newton has diminished, with the “current odds-on favorites” being quarterback Blaine Gabbert and defensive tackle Marcel Dareus.

Sorenson responded the first time. Wonder if he will now.

Newton was the flavor of the month in February. Gabbert is the flavor of the month in March. I'm sure if there was enough time to elapse before the draft, eventually we would all be arguing over whether Dalton was first pick worthy.

Nobody knows squat.

Best available QB. Rookie contracts will be cut in half so the financial burden isn't there and you haven't had star potential at the position since KC, which is sad. Ryan, Brees, Freeman. I don't see any DT's kicking our ars on Sundays, it's those guys.

Luck doesn't want to play here, if he did he would have jumped at the chance to be #1. Get over it, move on!

If I got a Big Ben instead of a Payton Manning, with good defense, I've got 3 rings! Kiss em!
