Marcell Dareus on First Take

Because if we don't take a QB at #1, we're not going to change QBs at all, right?

Seriously, guys

Haha. Very true. And for all we know, teh Jimmy can win that camp battle and upgrade to game manager. If we don't take a QB first, it doesn't automatically condemn our offense. It's not like any of these QB's are going to start from day one and become an effective signal caller their rookie season, especially if this lockout eats away training camp and OTA's and rookie mini camps etc.

Super duper! Our defense will be air tight. No one will score more than 10 points on us.

Too bad we'll still lose, as we can only score 3, or sometimes 7.

For everyone who continues to cry offense offense offense...

Our offense was regularly one of the bottom offenses in the league under Fox.

2010 - 12.2 ppg

2009 - 19.7

2008 - 25.9

2007 - 16.7

2006 - 16.9

2005 - 24.4

2004 - 22.2

2003 - 20.3

2002 - 16.1

(source NFL.com)

Much of our problems on offense can be directly attributed to the lack of creativity and game planning by Fox and Co. Our overall average with him is 19.4ppg. Offense is clearly not his strength.

We have a great OL, a great stable of RBs. We have some decent, young receivers, and an a bunch of unknowns at QB. Further, the general consensus is that we need a vet QB regardless of if we take a QB at #1. It's very likely that our offense will be much better, with the same personnel, because of our coaching turnover. We won't suddenly turn into the Packers, but you can be damn sure we won't be held to 12.2ppg.

    • This is what I mean. I am not some huge BY fan. I honestly don't look at QBs the way a lot of you guys do. Right or wrong, I've always looked at them as just another cog in the machine. Didn't want BY or even a trade up for a QB in 2023. We saw in the Super Bowl how important the rest of the team is on any given Sunday. Now... so PFF, who has no reason to prop up BY, says he's first in 2 stat lines and Panthers "fans" are arguing why it's either wrong or a made up stat just to make BY look good. Even though they have multiple stat lines where he's literally last in. Like 32nd in the NFL. Some he's even lower than 32. Take a step back. Try to objectively self analyze. This is just not sensible.  Same thing I see with other teams' fans and their QBs though. We analyze every single throw on every single play. For every other QB, most here are only using highlights to judge. Makes a difference. We saw Stafford miss throws when they played Carolina - both games. We saw Love throw crap up when they played Carolina. We saw Dak miss throws when they played Carolina - and Pickens was putting on a SHOW. We saw Josh Allen win a game with 163 yards passing against Carolina, but if BY does it he's crap and can't pass for 200 yards. Gents... come on.
    • None of us think we're contenders this season but no reason we're doomed to 5 or 6 wins either. Dan has to have another 2025- like draft class and at least 2 key free agent signings. We're not Seattle but they don't win without 5 starters from their last 2 draft classes and Darnold and Lawrence in free agency.  Alas,  we'll have to wait one more season for a QB upgrade.
    • I've got nothing else to say really than: Ayup. Here we are again. Again.  All we can really hope for is progress. If we improve as much again, it'll be good. If we don't, it'll be foretold.
