Latest WalterFootball.com Consensus Big Board

Right, but with the QBs relatively low on the averaged big board, they seem like a despeartion reach at #1. If we do draft a QB at number that is EXACTLY what it'll be, a desperation reach.

I think that's true if you expect him to play this year. But if we are actually picking a QB in order for him to be ready to start next season (which, based on Rivera's statment that rookie QB's should sit their first year, I think is the case), then it comes down to whether or not the team feels they can develop him enough to make him a worthy starter next year. I feel Gabbert can, but I'm not as certain about Cam, although he might very well be.

My point is that before deciding where a QB should be taken, you have to take into account how high the level of confidence is for the team that he can be developed and ready to start by the time they want him to. After all, QB is truly the most important position on the field, and if the team feels that one of these guys can develop into a franchise QB, then that trumps any other position and greatly adds value to wherever he happens to be ranked in mock drafts.

It's not just the character, but Darius has 3 years of good tape to show, Fairley has 1. Most also agree that Darius is the less dynamic, but better all around DT. He hasn't been hit for taking plays off and gained a lot of respect for playing most of last season on a high ankle sprain.

They're both very good DT's who bring position flexibility to the table and production but I think Darius is the safer pick.

I'm with you on Dareus. I think he will end up the better pro, and a dominant DT.

But honestly, I keep going back and forth on whether I want him or a QB. I think it comes down to whether or not the team feels it can get the QB ready to start by next year (I think this year is a prep year for Rivera to get the team ready for a playoff run next season). Not if they can force him in there like happened with Clausen, but if they think he will truly be ready. Because if he is, then I think a franchise QB is much more important than even a pro-bowl DT. But if there is any question, then I think Dareus should be the pick.

The original list is good and pretty much gives a good indicator of the "safest" draft picks. I think this is one of the only boards I have seen to not inflate the value of potential and to actually focus on the best guys at their respective position. It also gives a good indicator of where the top QB's are (should be) positioned relatively in this draft.

All that being said, I still hope the Panthers make a gamble and go for #16 on the list. But that is me overevaluating potential and hoping he becomes a superstar.

Who is this Bunting guy? Dareus 15? Amukamara 26? Gabbert unranked?

Lol, horrible, just horrible.

He also had Cam unranked. It's probably pretty accurate that neither of them should be on there. In terms of a "Big Board" they are both pretty terrible. It's only out of pure desperation and sexiness of the QB position that they get ranked higher.

Holy poo that was funny. I was seriously laughing at my desk.

This isn't the list of guys you would fug in order, this is a big board, meaning Cameron shouldn't be anywhere near the top ten. Do a serious one, come on.

This is big board, not a mock draft... There's a huge difference between where a player falls on a big board and where they are taken in a mock.

Almost everyone agrees PP is #1 on the big board, but very, very few people are mocking him #1 overall.

You're right, mock drafts are even more worthless. These have more validity in the overall prospect of each player, position not considered. Mock drafts is just guessing.

that doesn't look like a consensus big board.

See my edit above...I couldn't find a consensus big board for last year, but their consensus mock had JC at #1 to the Rams, so I doubt their consensus big board was much different than the one I posted.

Can you find another consensus big board? You act like they are the ones that are so wrong when they aren't the ones making it up, they are just compiling it.

Stop hating because Cam is low on the list

I'm not hating on anybody, sweetness...I'm just pointing out that these people sometimes get it wrong, especially when it comes to QB's. The people at Walter football thought JC was a can't miss prospect...that is a fact. Obviously it wasn't just one man's opinion either, since they had him at #1 overall on their consensus mock.

This doesn't prove anything about Cam Newton, except that they could be wrong about him, just like you could be wrong about him.
