Should the Panthers pick up Casey Matthews in the draft??

Now I know alot of people around here is been more focus on who the panthers should take with the first pick. I also know we have a great group of linebackers aswell. But I been looking at youtube on how Casey plays. He seems to be a beast at linebacker. Just like his brother with the Packers Clay Matthews. Casey Matthews is projected to go in the 4th or 5th round. I know this fact that Casey will be a Gem coming out of those late rounds. Right now the unknown wheather TD will stay with the panthers and if he does on wheather his knee will stay healthy through a whole season. I would say keep anderson at starter on oneside and move Conner back to a backup role again and move Beason back to MLB spot and TD on the otherside as the 3rd starter. Then draft Casey as a Backup to TD just in case and allow him to learn from Beason and TD and Anderson for a few years. I know the panthers has so many holes to fill and all. But drafting Casey in the 3rd wouldn't hurt. Casey most likely in a few years will be a beast like his brother is now. Please give your opinion on this subject and what you think. Here is some highlights of Casey Matthews.

You have to respect the way all the Matthews play the game but I don't know how well he'll do in the NFL.

I don't think he's on the level his brother is.

He did manage to track down the almighty Newton and cause a fumble so maybe we should give him a shot?

Well Casey has been working out with his brother this offseason so far. I know this is just thought and all. But you know Ron is a Defense guy. So there could be a chance of drafting Casey. Who knows how Casey will play in the NFL. That's about any player a team drafts. You can draft a great college player in the 1st round and be a bust. While a team like the Pats can draft Tom Brady out of the 6th round and out of no where he comes a Superstar QB who wins the SB. But you never know until he gets drafted and trained on the job by coaches and Vet players like Beason. Drafting any player is always a hit and miss thing. But draft Casey and put him on the Bench as a backup to TD or Beason and him learn as he plays. That's with any rookie drafted that late.

Yeah I agree with you I just don't see him being the impact player his brother is. I respect the motor he plays the game with and you always want guys like that on your team I just don't see where he fits in for us.

Beason is versatile and Connor is a solid backup so we have some leeway there. I don't think he'll fall to where it would make sense for us to take him.

if he is BPA at the time, Carolina will take him, Linebacker is not a position of much need.
I never said it was a big need. But Casey is projected to in the 4th or 5th round. So is most likely could be there for the panthers to pick up in the 4th. Most people know how beastly Clay played for the Packers this year. Casey could be just as beastly as his brother. But we want know until or if the panthers do decide to take him in the draft this coming month.

Well you never know. But if he drops to the 4th or 5th. I think the panthers should take a chance. It ain't going to hurt. The guy could be a hidden Gem in the draft.;)

I like Casey, but if we're gonna take a flyer on a late round LBer, I want Nate Irving form NC State. He is a force in the run game and a flat out beast coming on the blitz. His coverage skills aren't that great, but aren't that bad either.

We could use a little OLB depth, but with Beason (much better as MLB, I don't want anymore of that "play him on the outside" garbage, play him where he's best!) and Connor (only MLB) we don't need anymore MLBs. If Matthews or Irving can play OLB then I'd be all for them with the 5th or later. I'd prefer the 4th spent on Alex Henerey and the two thirds spent on DTs and/or OL or someone who just fell outta the second who's very much BPA.

    • Don't take this personal, but anyone who watches pregame or game broadcast on any of the four major networks & can't point out a dozen "experts" that Luke would do a better job than, is just not paying attention. IMO
    • overall agree on the draft grade as a whole on on each pick, but every time I read (and I have read it more than once) that we "gave up two firsts" for Bryce, I am confused. We gave up the 2024 first, but we swapped 2023 firsts, so we didn't give up anything there. We did give up our former first rounder in DJ, but I don't think thats what you mean as one of the "firsts" we gave up.
    • Didn't  see this posted (since 2023) but since folks have been posting that you can't judge a draft class for three years (a ridiculous take), I thought I'd post this to see what people thought about the 2023 draft. Unfortunately this may not be the most interesting class to do this with but I do quite like retrospective draft grades. Would appreciate other's takes on this (and other recent) draft classes.   1(1) - Bryce Young QB: I am a bigger Bryce Young apologist than most (maybe all). I like the kid. But there is no way around it: This was a terrible pick. If he had been picked in the 4th or even the 3rd round I would feel pretty good about it. But this was the first overall pick that we gave up two firsts, our best offensive player to get.  GRADE: C -    2(39) - Jonathan Mingo WR: not much to say here here. He was here for two years. His yards per catch are on par with Bryce's yards per pass. Rough stuff. To date he has still never scored a touchdown in the NFL GRADE: F   3(80) - DJ Johnson OLB: a pick I hated as soon as it happened and an example of why the premise of this thread is honestly dumb. This was a bad pick when it happened. Most people knew it.  Then came training camp and he did not look good. Then came the preseason which confirmed what we saw in TC. Then came the season which confirmed what we saw in preseason. To date, he has half a sack in his career. GRADE: F 4 (114) Chandlers Zavala G: Honestly the best pick of this draft which really speaks to how awful this draft is. Other than Bryce, the only pick still on the team. He is mostly average or below average depth which in round 4 is not terrible. But he had a pff score of 43.5 and though I think people have unrealistic expectations for draft picks, I still would want a little more from a fourth round pick GRADE: C+   5 (145) - Jammie Robinson S: I liked the pick when it happened but ended up being a disappointment. He logged 1 tackle with the falcons last year and not enough snaps to get a grade on PFF.  GRADE: F OVERALL DRAFT GRADE: F
