The John Fox Mentality. Cmon

John Fox is off drinking Coors but his mentality is alive and well in the Carolinas, (and the Huddle). His mentality of "playing it safe" worked only 3 out of the 9 years he was a coach here. 3! That's it. But for some reason we still want to play it safe and not take any chances. Some people seem ok with being 7-9 or 8-8 the majority of the time.

We have a NEW coaching staff with a NEW philosphy who want to dictate games offensively. They want teams to adjust to the Panthers. The "punt is a good play" is no longer the mentality around here.

Mind you I am not against drafting a DT a need position but Dareus = Fairley = Taylor = Austin. All are solid but not special. One can be had of equal talent later on. Cmon

PP is a good to great corner but would you draft Revis or Flacco/Ryan/Freeman if you had to choose. Cmon

AJ Green more youth at a position where we have youth. 3 picks last year at WR and we want to pick another? Cmon.

Let us remember that we all want the same thing. A Super Bowl Championship. We've played it safe for long enough without winning... time to try it another way. Cmon

who do you think?

Why do people bring up a 2-14 record and being a winning team when talking about Cam? If we draft Cam, our record won't magically be better all of a sudden and there ARE other ways to win even if we don't chose Cam.

I am all for taking chances, Cam so be it but that doesn't mean all chances end in reward, so let's not assume that just yet.

But playing it safe up until now hasn't either.

    • I'll say 6. I don't know that we learned a whole lot about this team during preseason that we didn't already know. We didn't play the starters enough to really get a feel for what to expect. We had one good drive against the Browns, one 3-and-out and two 3-and-outs against the Texans. That's an extremely small sample size across 3 games regardless of performance. My camp/preseason takeaways: Jalen Coker might be the best WR on this team and is certainly no worse than #2. Nic Scourton is going to be a good player for us. Possibly very good. Bobby Brown was our best free agent addition and will do more to help the defense than anyone. Jack Plummer isn't an NFL QB. Not even a practice squad guy. Having anyone other than Canales and Evero call plays was a really stupid and pointless idea. Our depth is largely non-existent, especially on defense. The three areas we actually DO have depth are on the OL, in the WR corp. and at RB. I can't fathom why Dan Morgan didn't do more to upgrade ILB during the offseason. We better hope Lathan Ransom steps up at FS because if he doesn't we have a massive hole there. For all the hype surrounding Sanders and Evans, Tommy Tremble is still the best TE on the roster. I'm only slightly less enthusiastic going into the regular season than I was a month ago. I think our starters on offense are solid and we should be pretty good there unless Bryce totally regresses. On defense, we're probably bottom 3rd in the league if 100% healthy and significantly worse than that if injuries become an issue. We badly need at least two of our rookies to become high-level players early (ideally one of the pass rushers + Ransom) and at least 2 of our free agent additions (ideally Moehrig + Bobby Brown) to be significant upgrades over last year. Call me pessimistically optimistic 😆
    • 2010 was worse. Not much worse but worse.
    • Lol since 2017 the Panthers are 47-85,    Also since 2017 the Giants are 40-91-1   Lol
