If the team passes on...

If whoever we draft busts and the team struggles for then ext few years he may lose his job, but he's not on the hot seat yet... he's amassed a pretty good pool of talent to work from imo.

I like Hurney. I believe he's a good GM and I'm happy he kept his job even after last year's disaster.

If I take off my Panthers cap and speak objectively though, we are talking about the guy who traded up to get Everette Brown, Armanti Edwards and Bruce Nelson and tried to trade up to get Jimmy Clausen

Painful to admit, but sadly true :(

He doesn't qualify as an elite GM at this point, and definitely won't be "untouchable" if he picks a major bust at number one.

Obviously, I really hope that doesn't happen.

Jordan Gross

Chris Gamble

Thomas Davis

DeAngelo Williams

Jon Beason

Jonathan Stewart

Jeff Otah

Hurney is 100% in the first round as far as I'm concerned. I'll hop on board and support whoever we pick (except for Blaine Gabbert).

question their intelligence and/or commitment to winning

I'd ultimately support the player, but that doesn't mean I wouldn't be upset initially. There are some players (Fairley) that would upset me more than others (Dareus, Green) but I'd support them in the end.

Hey, take this guy, and at most of the Huddle will be anywhere from "Great, he's who I wanted!" to "Not who I wanted, but not a terrible pick.."

Green being the pick would provide the least amount of controversy on this board.

Well,

A) I'm not sure that should be the thought process behind making a million dollar decision and

B) I'm really not sure that would be the least controversial pick. Heck, I'm not sure if there even is such a thing.

We all are hopefully fans of this team and no matter how bad you hate or how much u love a decision we don't get paid to make these decisions. We all have our own opinions and that being said we also don't have the chance to meet all of these guys and evaluate them personally. Basically none of us have any clue who is the best choice. If we did we wouldn't be on here posting we would speaking to the players and actually having an influence on the decision and not bickering online with a bunch of other people that have no idea what is right for the organization. That being said I am a true panthers fan and I might not like a decision they make but will support every player on this team. No questions asked period.

I agree with A

But.

From what I've seen, most here would be happy with Green, even if it wasn't their horse in the race.

Take a peak through this thread, and you'll see that while not everyone has Green number one, he is usually in their Top 3.

That's what I mean by least controversial.

Yes, you'll have King Taharqa whining that Richardson is a racist for taking Green over Newton, but for the most part, most people feel that Green is worth the number one overall pick and wouldn't be devastated with him.

I'm convinced that we are taking Cam at #1 and it happens to be the pick that I want the team to make. If it ends up being Peterson or green, I'm ok with it, but I think the FO better believe that green is the next Calvin Johnson or Peterson is the next Revis to make that pick. If it's Bowers or Gabbert, then my expectations of us having much of any hope are out the window and I'll entrench myself on the get rid of whoever is responsible for making football related decisions bandwagon.

Instead we'll draft Newt and watch you whine about Richardson being a sellout. Drafting a WR #1 overall is fiscally irresponsible. Only a very small minority of fans want us to do so.

Would want Dareus if we can't trade out of the first pick.

Newton is a gamble I don't want to take. Gabbert's completion percentage dropped when going beyond 10 yards. Used to be on board for Peterson, but upon looking further at his games, he isn't a shutdown corner (too many completions against him, esp in big time games), Fairley holds major reservations regarding his character, Green would be okay if we are parting ways with Smith.

Nevertheless, I will have to trust the judgement of the current staff to know what they are looking at better than I do. Rivera stated that he has been around great QBs and hence, would know one with those qualities when he saw it. I will certainly not be upset if Clausen/Moore gets the nod over any of them the first year out.

My bigger concern has to do with the OLine play. It hasn't been discussed, but if we trade down and get a STUD tackle, I will be more than OK with that. I think we have some REAL potential to pick up a damn fine OT and then a DT in a 2nd round comp pick. Those two picks alone could set us up for a damn fine comeback in 2 years
