Now that it's almost certain Cam will be the pick, what are your thoughts?

You are not alone. I appreciate your honesty. There are others here that do as well. It'll be interesting to see how they react to having to kiss his ass the next 3-4 years tho. ;)

Just 3-4 years huh? So just drafting him is good enough for you? Not expected to be here for the long term, why not?

Lofty assumption.

Well if he's good enough to be picked #1, he better be good enough to start on our team. Look at the recent first round draft qb's of the past couple seasons, all taken in the top 10 start off the bat. - Ryan, Sanchez, Stafford, Bradford... if he's picked #1, he better be in their class. Who here believes he is?

Exceptions: Freeman and The Golden Calf of Bristol. Both started towards the end of their rookie seasons.

He believes if read between the lines that after the 3-4 years their lips will be so tightly puckered to his bum that they will only know the sweet taste of sweaty winning as it perspirates their lips.

This train of thought is outdated. If he is picked, he goes in.

With some QB's I would agree with you, but with Cam I think he will need to sit and learn before you put him in. If you let this guy mature first I think he could be something special.

I agree with you, thats why i DONT think he should be the #1 pick. Our #1 pick needs to be a starter from day one, IMO.

Who here gets the "Reggie Bush" vibe with the thought of drafting Newton? A few years ago when Bush came out of college, he was that player that everyone had to have; he had all the tools, talent and physical ability to be a great NFL running back. I know that Houston obviously didn't see it that way (lucky them) but I am sure the Aints were thinking they struck it big when Bush fell to them. Now looking at the pick and Bush's production (or lack thereof), he didn't pan out to be the star player. I wouldn't go on to say he was a full-out bust, but is a 3rd down back worthy of a 3rd round pick. I have the same feeling about Newton, that with all the talent and physical ability he has, that maybe he was just too much for the typical college athlete (a few steps above in talent and size) but not quite as much for an NFL pro. Not saying that he will be a bust, but just not fully live up to the hype coming out of college.

Reggie Bush has a Super Bowl ring and most Saints fans I know of are very happy with him. Ive yet to meet one that wishes they had Mario Williams instead. No he's not the all world back he was projected to be, but he is an important cog in that NO offense that led them to a Super Bowl.

Cam fan here, but i still think its to early.the FO are still doing there HW.

This.

I really do hope the Panthers pick him, but Im trying not to get my hopes too high. I, for one, dont like all this talk of us being set on Cam. Don't wanna jinx it. I'm setting myself up to with whoever we pick, I won't be surprised lol.

    • Didn't  see this posted (since 2023) but since folks have been posting that you can't judge a draft class for three years (a ridiculous take), I thought I'd post this to see what people thought about the 2023 draft. Unfortunately this may not be the most interesting class to do this with but I do quite like retrospective draft grades. Would appreciate other's takes on this (and other recent) draft classes.   1(1) - Bryce Young QB: I am a bigger Bryce Young apologist than most (maybe all). I like the kid. But there is no way around it: This was a terrible pick. If he had been picked in the 4th or even the 3rd round I would feel pretty good about it. But this was the first overall pick that we gave up two firsts, our best offensive player to get.  GRADE: C -    2(39) - Jonathan Mingo WR: not much to say here here. He was here for two years. His yards per catch are on par with Bryce's yards per pass. Rough stuff. To date he has still never scored a touchdown in the NFL GRADE: F   3(80) - DJ Johnson OLB: a pick I hated as soon as it happened and an example of why the premise of this thread is honestly dumb. This was a bad pick when it happened. Most people knew it.  Then came training camp and he did not look good. Then came the preseason which confirmed what we saw in TC. Then came the season which confirmed what we saw in preseason. To date, he has half a sack in his career. GRADE: F 4 (114) Chandlers Zavala G: Honestly the best pick of this draft which really speaks to how awful this draft is. Other than Bryce, the only pick still on the team. He is mostly average or below average depth which in round 4 is not terrible. But he had a pff score of 43.5 and though I think people have unrealistic expectations for draft picks, I still would want a little more from a fourth round pick GRADE: C+   5 (145) - Jammie Robinson S: I liked the pick when it happened but ended up being a disappointment. He logged 1 tackle with the falcons last year and not enough snaps to get a grade on PFF.  GRADE: F OVERALL DRAFT GRADE: F
