NFL Combine

I just hope the Panthers get a new D-lineman. I think the DE's are pretty weak this year, but there is good stock of DT's. Other than that, I'd wanna see them draft a CB in the 2nd and follow it up with a WR/QB in the 3rd, should any guys fall back. I doubt that 3rd round scenario though.

I still worry about Godfrey at safety and I'm not sold on Richard Marshall or C.J. Wilson. I'm especially not sold on Ken Lucas. I still see problems at the #2 CB position this year.

What is great is that if you look at the draft since 2002 and John Fox, all our first round picks are still starters (minus Peppers who is gonna go bye bye, of course). The Panthers draft damn good players in the first round. We need another first round pick this year.

Hakeem Nicks. I think Hakeem Nicks will fall to mid 2nd round unless he has an amazing Combine (I just see more teams getting RBs or Linemen over late 1st round WRs with this years FAs).

We don't need another WR.....

I'd love Micheal Johnson and/or first round calibre CB/DT instead.

We don't need another WR.....

Says who?

Lets look at our current WR roster, shall we?

Steve Smith- Obviously the best receiver on the roster

Moose- Good but losing his step, could see retirement next year if not this year

Dywane Jarrett- Unproven, still has to prove that he can take over for Moose

The drop off

Hackett- Injury proned and on the verge of being cut

Carter- Unproven and not really sure where they stand

Ryne Robinson- Got injured and seems to be beaten out by Jones

Jones- Solid ST contributor but lacks ideal WR traits

Honestly, this isn't a bad class for receivers and it wouldn't hurt to look.

We are better off getting Hakeem Nicks with our 2nd round then any CB/DT that are still on the board.

Keep in mind that our 2nd round pick is currently 59th overall. If he is still available at 59th, he will be the best player on the board.

I'd bet we either get a WR or a LB with that 2nd round pick. I'm happy with our LBers and would rather see Moose help someone his last years in the pros then panic when Moose retires.

Also, Micheal Johnson will not be around that deep in the 2nd.

Would the team consider a WR with our first pick?

I love Heyward-Bey, he's got Steve Smith's speed and catching abilities plus 5 inches. But the only way we get him is if we nab him in the first or early, early second. That doesn't seem likely given our needs on the D. Still, I drool at the possibility

    • Went to school in MD when this came out. Dance floor got CRAZY when this joint came on!
    • They had best show out in Week 1 there are zero,I mean zero,  excuses for that offense  defense, haven’t play together yet and they still have Mr Soft and Predictable as DC  I expect break downs at times  …but that offense returns all starters except Tremble and both Mayes and Brady are veterans and can play LG and know the system not up for any participation awards this season they can save that practice energy for Jacksonville.     I’m sick of the, winning,  or looking competitive, when it doesn’t matter.
    • There are some tough decisions that I'm eager to see the results of... Does Blackshear sneak on to the roster as RB4? Does the team go with 4 TEs or just 3 again? And has Mitchell Evans done enough to defend his roster spot from James Mitchell? Who is WR6 and is there a WR7? TMac, XL, Coker, and AT seem to be locks imo and I'm assuming Renfrow also makes it due to all of the camp praise. Who makes it between Brycen Tremayne, Jimmy Horn Jr, and David Moore? If the team goes with 7 WRs, which one of those three doesn't make it? Jacolby George and Emani Bailey both have not gotten a lot of game time. Could the Panthers be trying to hide them so that they can be stashed on the PS? Do they go with 10 OL instead of 9? Who makes it out of Walton, Carter, and Kingston? DL locks are DB, BB3, ARob, and Turk. That leaves Jaden Crumedy, Cam Jackson, Sam Roberts, Shy Tuttle, and LaBryan Ray all competing for the final 1 - 3 spots. Does DJ Johnson get IR'd and Thomas Incoom make the roster as EDGE5? What in the fuuuuuuuuuuuuck is going to happen at LB? Only locks seem to be Wallace, Rozeboom, and Cherelus (Wallace has mentioned in media how Cherelus has been big bro for him on the team). Rhattigan had some good moments against Houston, Martin-Scott is an SC guy, Krys Barnes has popped on defense and on special teams, and Windmon got time starting for the team last season. Are two of those guys going to make it or are the Panthers poaching from another team's cuts? CB5... who is it? Do they go with the 4 expected safeties or bring in a 5th? Has Ransom done enough to take the start from Nick Scott?
