Cam will start in 2011 if drafted

Okay, then go back and look at the last 25 QBs drafted in the first round........teams don't think it is bullpoo to have a legit vet on a roster.

If I made NFL money to mentor a rookie late in my career(be in the film room etc.)......I would not be insulted. Happens all the time.

Is that a concerted effort to mentor a rookie or happenstance that a vet happened to be on the roster??

I would say it is a concerted effort to make sure one is on the roster when you invest in a QB in the 1st round. Teams simply have added them to the roster the same year they draft a kid if a vet didn't previously exist.

You guys really think we won't resign Moore?

Lol

you really think a new HC.......is going to want Fox's old trio of Moore/Clausen/Pike as the QBs?

new era.....if he drafts a QB, Fox's old crew will battle for 1 spot and the emphasis won't be on that guy going forward.

eh, more of a technicality than a legitimate contract offer. Those guys weren't all tendered b/c they are part of Carolina's plans in 2011. Null was tendered.

They gave Moore a high tender last year, one that carried with it a 3 million dollar salary. League rules require that the tender offer they give him this year includes a raise in pay.

I have a hard time seeing that as a technicality.

I expect at the very least, he will go to training camp. And to hear Hurney talk about him, you get the idea they haven't soured that much on him.

If Cam is drafted #1 overall, recent history shows he will start in 2011 at some point.

In the past 10 NFL drafts, 25 QBs have been drafted in round 1.

21 of those 25 QBs started as rookies.

The 4 QBs who did not start as rookies, all had starting QBs that either had a Pro Bowl season that year or had previously been to the Pro Bowl multiple times. (Carolina doesn't have a former Pro Bowler or a QB on pace to reach it this upcoming season on the roster).

So if we draft Cam.....you gotta be ready for the Cam era to start at some point in 2011.

He probably wont start from day one, but it will just be a matter of time. Whether it be injuries to the qb ahead of him, or whatever the case may be. They won't give him the keys just because he was the #1 pick ala the Raiders with Russell or Denver with The Golden Calf of Bristol. Russell and The Golden Calf of Bristol didn't earn the starting job. Horton was having a solid year and when he got hurt they just gave the job to The Golden Calf of Bristol even though he was unimpressive in the pre-season and in practices. That won't happen here. Cam is going to have to earn it and take it. He will have to force Ron Ron with his play in practice and his grasp with the playbook to put him on the field this season. I believe that will eventually happen. It may happen in camp if it is one or it may happen during the first quarter(or first 4 games) of the season, but I believe it will. I believe the team will try and bring in a vet or some type of competion like the Rams did last year. The name of the vet the Rams brought in escapes me, but it was clear from the pre-season that Bradford was better. He still would have been second string, but the vet got injured and Bradford never looked back. But you are right CRA, it will be a matter of when, not if he starts next year. The thing is, I don't know what vet they can bring in, that Cam can't beat out. They may be wise to just stick with Matt Moore.

    • I originally hated the Miller deal but with the cap projected to rise nearly $10M next season the Canes struck some pretty good deals between Miller and Ehlers. Most of the team is locked in for the next few years. Nikishin will need an extension probably in the $6M AAV range. And Blake will need one if we don’t move him. Personally I’d move Blake, picks, and any prospect not named Nikishin/Nadeau/Artamonov for McTavish as I don’t see any any of the big time players moving teams next year. Realistically the Hurricanes should just target Gustavsson next year to fix the goal tending issue. But I’m all for moving Blake, picks, and prospects for McTavish this year. Ehlers - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - McTavish - Stankoven Martinook - Staal - Carrier Hall - Kotkaniemi - Robinson Jost - Jankowski Slavin - Miller Nikishin - Chatfield Gostisbehere - Walker Reilly Andersen Kochetkov I’d do Blake, Felix-Unger-Sorum, and 27 2nd for McTavish.
    • Very true on the length but stuff like this is never where we shine. We aren’t a good team at drafting.
    • Homerism aside, the more I see from Dan, the more impressed I am.  His player evaluation instincts. Last year his 2 premier FA signings, Hunt and Lewis COMPLETELY changed the line and I have a feeling his success in choosing blue chip guys will continue.  Look at the panthers’s rep for FA signings in the past. By and large, it’s been guys 1 year past their prime who had an injury and suckered our GM in to a crippling contract. We never get nice things. When was the last time this team signed 2 young blue chip studs  in the same offseason to contracts worthy of their impact? Ever?  Im telling y’all, players respect and trust Morgan.
