Brandon Harris in the 2nd?

With the report that we're determined to get back into the 2nd round - and the news about Smith wanting out for sure coupled with the lockout 'ending' - I think it's a very real possibility that we end up picking in the mid-2nd Friday night.

Brandon Harris seems to be slipping somewhat, but I've felt from day one that he has shutdown corner potential and would absolutely LOVE if we could grab him in the 2nd round.

Brandon Harris is a BEAST. I'm a big fan of THE U. I saw him play every game last year. He's solid, and very competitive! Definitely a shutdown corner. I'd rather have Leonard Hankerson though. That dude is gonna be a force from day one. You really can't go wrong picking anybody from the U in any round!

If we're drafting in the 2nd, I hope we're not drafting in the 3rd. Cuz if we're still drafting in the 3rd, that means we probably gave up our 1st next year. Besides, I'd rather have Marvin Austin or Steven Paea and Ras-I Dowling than Harris and McClain or Jenkins (assuming Dowling will be available in the 3rd).

I really think Aaron Williams from Texas is going to be a Beast. He wont be there for us. I still like P^2 and Dareus at 1. We will see. I dont think Hurney has the balls to draft Newton. But I am glad we've been riding his sack because he has a high celing, if people think there is going to be enough of a QB rush in the first that CK goes in round 1, we may have played our cards just right.

We could see a Rivers Manning type deal at #1 perhaps?

I second this look what Sam Shields did in GB... he was a late rounder from the U...they produce the best NFL players period.

    • Gustavsson would be insane. I think we would have to break the bank to afford that move. Which, I don't think is necessarily a bad idea. Ultimately, Freddie isn't likely to be around more than a couple of seasons more. We can all agree that unless they have a fleet of sports psychologists working on Kochetkov, he will never be capable of getting his head on straight enough to compete.
    • I originally hated the Miller deal but with the cap projected to rise nearly $10M next season the Canes struck some pretty good deals between Miller and Ehlers. Most of the team is locked in for the next few years. Nikishin will need an extension probably in the $6M AAV range. And Blake will need one if we don’t move him. Personally I’d move Blake, picks, and any prospect not named Nikishin/Nadeau/Artamonov for McTavish as I don’t see any any of the big time players moving teams next year. Realistically the Hurricanes should just target Gustavsson next year to fix the goal tending issue. But I’m all for moving Blake, picks, and prospects for McTavish this year. Ehlers - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - McTavish - Stankoven Martinook - Staal - Carrier Hall - Kotkaniemi - Robinson Jost - Jankowski Slavin - Miller Nikishin - Chatfield Gostisbehere - Walker Reilly Andersen Kochetkov I’d do Blake, Felix-Unger-Sorum, and 27 2nd for McTavish.
    • Very true on the length but stuff like this is never where we shine. We aren’t a good team at drafting.
