Taken a Defensive Player helps the Offense How?

well, I enjoy the argument... I dont think Cam Newton helps us win games tomorrow either... neither does AJ Green, so what you do is draft the player that makes the MOST impact on the field... thats Dareus. Hes not relying on anyone to throw him the ball, all he has to do is like up and hold his gap.

How is Dareus going to put points up on the board he isnt going to get a sack every play hell he only had 4 sacks last year and 7 or 8 his whole college career. Drafting a playmaker like newton or green gives us a better chance to win games. If you arent sold on either one of these guys thats when you go defense. Our defense was not the problem why we went 2-14 the offense was.

The main reason why our offense was so bad last year was the inconsistent play from out OL!!!!!!! If you control the line of scrimmage, you control the game. On both sides of the ball.

Our OL went from being one of the best in the NFL the year before to one of the worst. Loosing RT Jeff Otah really killed us, and J. Gross coming off the broken leg didn't play very well all year.

Any QB will not play well if he doesn't have the time in the pocket to throw the ball. Just like our RBs sucked last year because the OL couldn't run block worth a poo neither.

It was a chain reaction, our OL couldn't pass protect, so we couldn't throw the ball well. So now we had to run the ball more because the OL couldn't pass protect. And the defense knew that, so they would stack the box almost every play and stop the run.

This draft should be with trying to build a winner 2-4 seasons down the road.

The justification for Defense is that Cam Newton is too risky, so shore up Defensive for next 5-10 yrs and focus on Offense via Free Agency at first and then next years draft.

Which will have 3 franchise QB's, all of which project better on paper than Cam Newton does.

Though I think you could make a case for AJ Green at #1 and then DT and CB in 3rd round

Exactly.

With the current roster and our schedule, we WILL be drafting top 5 next season. The QB crop there is MUCH stronger than anyone in this draft.

If Dareus was taking up blockers then CJ/Brown/Hardy could suffocate the QB. We also wouldn't allow 20 fuging rushing TDs.

Best way to fight a bad offense is to get a great defense. Yeah, we need a QB. Is Cam that guy? I'm not so sure. Auburn's simplicity scares me when our new OC supposedly has a 900 page playbook...

Agree.

It is not the things that Cam did wrong last season that concerns me. He was very successful in that offense. It is the things that he has never been asked to do that scares me.

the simplisting (numbers) offense where he did not have to know complex plays.

the not playing under center.

the inability at the combine and his pro day to throw to spots rather than to wide open WR's.

the never showing great evidence of goign through his 2,3,4, or 5th passing progressions and then putting th eball in a very small window (the only type of passes you get in the NFL).

These create so much unknown with Cam...that is why I think we should pass on him.

If that played a role as big as you imply we would have destroyed Chicago last year.

You still need to have a good game plan, which we did not. Don't underestimate the effect good coaching (assuming we get it going forward) will have on the current offensive talent.

We also had the Jimmy.

Very true. Remember when the Bucs drafted last year? DT in the 1st, DT in the 2nd. Everyone was like what in the hell are they doing? It sure seemed to work out well for them.

Remember when Josh Freeman stunk it up against us, and against anyone they played. They won 3 games that year. Sounds eerily similar to us doesn't it? We drafted Clausen, he had a terrible year. Now we get our chance at drafting a legit DT.

If we can't stop the run we are screwed. Teams don't have to throw the football when they can run for 5-8 yds on the 1st down. Our run D was terrible last year and everyone thought we would draft a DT. We didn't and see how that turned out?

What really hurt our offense wasnt the offensive line it was the ability to run the ball and the ability to pass the ball. Teams blitz the living day lights out of us. Because they knew Clausen couldnt throw it. And they knew our only chance to score was to run the ball but that want going to happen because they had an eight man, nine man box.

This is how newton or Green can fit in. With green he can help the passing game out a ton smitty want catch double coverage that much and teams will have to blitz at will. Because Clausen might get lucky and throw it up at Smitty or green would get it .Thats if Smitty stays. But with Newton it could workout well how because he can keep the defense honest at the most you really cant blitz because he can run. It will open up the run game with stewart and williams and having a pass catching TE will be the most helpful of all because he can help newton out a lot not just newton but any QB.
