Our Revamped Offense

Dangerous? Absolutely! Ready to take the NFL (or even the NFCS) by storm in 2011? Maybe not just yet.

I'm very optimistic about the future, but I can't help but feel like we're going to need at least a season or two for the ingredients to really come together into a delicious recipe.

Of the 7 guys in the photo above, 4 are really young or have never played a game with the Panthers. Sure, Shockey is a vet, but it may take awhile for him to adjust to things.

Of course, Smitty is a huge question mark, and unless I've missed something D-Will is also, even if to a lesser degree.

Hypothetically speaking, though, and saying all these guys will be here, there's no denying the talent. But I'd bet good money that we're going to need to remain patient throughout 2011.

Its the different formations that we could use that excites me. I dont know exactly what offense we will be running, but we have a lot of weapons on our offense. I dont think we will make the playoffs but we will surprise some people. If anything, Newton keeps defenses honest with his running abilities.

I'm not expecting greatness this year. The lockout will make it tough to prepare for this year.

Even without the lockout, I think we'd be lucky to win 6 given the schedule, the lack of experience on some skill positions, and of course, the QB situation.

And even though I favored drafting Cam Newton, we still have a situation at quarterback. We can't lose sight of that.

I can't say that I'm not excited about the new additions to the team. There is a lot of potentiel in Newton as well as other guys draft not just this year but last year as well, including Clausen.

But the success of this team this year will have very little if anything to do with the addition of players. The 2011 Panthers will be defined by the new coaching staff. If you were to tell me that the Panthers are going to win 8 games this season I would guess that either Newton or Clausen was the starting QB, Smith was or wasn't here, Williams did or didn't re-sign. The major changes this year are going to be coming from the coaching staff, not the players, IMO>

    • How in the world are folks not getting open because of Bryce when he was sacked for what was then the 2nd most times a rookie QB had been sacked (until Caleb Williams)? He got sacked 50+ times behind a 6th and 7th string guard duo. Dalton played one good game against the RAIDERS? The same Andy Dalton that people are ready to take out behind the barn and put down so that they can have a UDFA QB in the room that won't be on a roster next season? I get that Aidan O'Connell is some Huddlers favorite QB, but Jesus... Again: What is the acceptable floor for a rookie QB with 6th & 7th string starting guards, a group of weapons where the only player getting open is 33yrs old, and the coaching staff switched the offense up three times in their first year? Why is it that I keep getting excuses instead of numbers in response to that?
    • Stanford probably should've won that game, all things considered. Not a great look for Reich.
    • Frank Reich had 3 timeouts and got the ball back with just over 2min left and the game tied at 20. On 2nd and 7, he calls back-to-back passing plays instead of a screen or a run to wind down the clock. They punted to Hawai'i who was sitting on two timeouts. Reich sat on all 3 timeouts once Hawai'i got into field goal range which allowed them to kill clock and kick the game winning FG. This was the offensive guru that switched the offense on a rookie QB twice. 🙃   I'm gonna need some of the "no excuses" crowd to keep that energy for themselves this season if Bryce keeps looking like he did post benching.
