Moving to Hawai'i

Thanks to Uncle Sam, my family and I will be moving to Hawai'i in about seven weeks. It all started with the following question: "Will you go to Korea for a year without your family?" Mind you, we have a 21 month old and 7 week old. After mcuh discussion with my wife and our families, we told the Air Force, "Yes."

About three weeks later, I learned that I was penciled in for Korea starting in July 2011. However, when the folks at the Pentagon called with my official assignment, they asked me, "How would you like to go to Hawai'i instead?" I answered by saying, "Oh, please no. I would hate to spend a couple years in Hawai'i with my family." So, here we are. Moving in seven weeks. It should be a great three years.

Def. better than Afghanistan, but I will most likely be deployed my third year in Hawai'i.

Yeah. Football will be nice. Panthers games will come on at 8 until DST starts, 7 after that. They will end by 1130, which will give plenty of time to go to the beach.

I lived there for 3 years. FYI, its very expensive. Be prepared to pay a minimum of 25% more for virtually everything you buy. Even pineapples cost more there for some reason.

But its beautiful, the weather is incredible and there is quite a bit to see and do. Since you are a military member, you can get some discounts on things like flights to the other islands. Big Island is definitely interesting. And you can get a cabin on Bellows beach/AFB for next to nothing although you have to get it a few months in advance. And its probably better than Korea. :)

Let me know if you have any questions.

The only bad thing I can say about Hawaii.... that island gets smaller every single day. You get tired of it.

But congrats on the assignment. I tried the same thing in 2008.... "no... I don't want to go to Ft. Lewis." 3 months later, I was there. :D

    • I knew very little about this player before we drafted him. When I read scouting reports about him I understood the pick and thought it made sense as a late round receiver with speed and special teams ability but after watching him more closely and now adding his interviews into the equation I'm actually really excited about him. I know it's just RMC but I noticed him running his routes with this extra step that really stood out to me during the general video posted earlier without realizing who it was doing that.  His speed in his first cut is just on another level and it's visible. When I saw it I was **** whoa, who was that?! Then I saw Horn JR. and my first thought was oh it's him. I think it's very possible that he was under appreciated going into the draft due to his height and stats because he played at Colorado where the attention was on 2 other players but I think this dude's ceiling is way higher than most think it is. Especially after watching his interview. He looks hungry. I may have found my fav rook for this year's pre-season. I like pulling for underdogs anyway and as someone who played on the small side myself it just gives me more reason to cheer for him. The competition at WR looks like it's going to be fierce this season. I honestly can remember any preseason where I looked at out wr group and got past 3 players who I thought were interesting but this season I'm interested in at least 5 who have my attention going into the season.
    • Wilson should be getting called for at least 3 penalties a night even in the post season. How does he not lead the NHL in PM???
