NFL to close up shop?

Recommended Posts

Jerry Jones and other owners who have hundreds of millions dollars owed for new stadiums and stadium renovation bills will not allow the NFL to go out of business.

Jerry still owes at least 425 million dollars.

Also, if there is no NFL. Its going to cost the city of Charlotte at least 100 million dollars.

Yeah, owners close shop, that'll show them.

I'd believe there would be a chance of an NFL shutdown if they still got the TV money, but they won't get a chance to sniff that money.

This is why bankruptcy exists...happens all the time. Owners may have millions personally but this matters very little when it comes to corporate franchises who show losses, a history of diminished profits, a history of increases, a looming stadium overhaul, and a poor horizon given current circumstances and economic climate. (all of this can be shown on paper, true or not)

Would they lose money, sure. But would it be shown as and seen as cutting losses? Depends on who you ask and what their true motives, shared or not, really are.

They still hold the cards. Lots of people, including me personally, will lose and be stuck holding the bag if the NFL restructures. Most vendors have been told of a freeze in spending before the last season even ended. But there will be a line of vendors around the block for NFL 2.0 to utilize the day it opens for business.

So you think Jerry would advocate personal bankruptcy, as well as, a shut down of the group and team that he obviously loves more than anything, to prove a point? to get an extra 500 million dollars from the 9 billion revenue?

It's not going to happen.

When the courts have had their final say, there will be an agreement.

he won't personally go bankrupt..no. The business or portions of it will. Or threaten to.

And its not up to JJ. He may be willing to throw all he has at it no matter what. I would agree with you and assume he would. But you need opponents to beat up on.

The question is if all 32 teams will or even can. It will only take one or two to release "disconcerting statements about the state of their franchise" to start the domino effect, rumor mill, and propaganda that will get things moving.

Wut?

If the players had no power then why did they owners agree to a "bad deal" for themselves in the last CBA?

Big reason for that is because of Paul Tagliabue and him wanting to get a deal done before he retired.... So they sucked it up and accepted a poor contract for Tagliabue.

The players still don't see that they don't have power and can't win this, at a whim the NFL can shut Down. Then re open a couple months later and do so legally.

The sooner they realize that losing 5% isn't that big of a deal in the overall picture of things the better. That 5% will go a long way in making sure that the teams can function with out a loss..

Yes there are teams that operate at a loss and it's gotten worse for some of them over the last few seasons.

The owners loss many millions and possibly billions of dollars because they wanted to make Tagliabue happy and not look bad?

If you pro-owners believe stuff like this then there is no reason even to attempt to have a debate.

So, keep thinking the NFL is going to close down.

If I am wrong, then I'll eat crow for the rest of my life, but it wont happen.

I am lol'ing at the amount of pro union posters on this board.

You guys that keep on saying for the owners to open their books.....why would/should they.

The owners are not as dumb as the fans or the players, they have already shown that they are willing to not play football if the cba is not a more owner friendly version.

The players "union" will cave when the lower tier players start raising hell, and there are no more dues being paid.

Yeah, restructure and go with former UFL players. I know people are lined up to watch Mike Teel play football at it's highest level. The players and the owners both made this league what it is, and it took both of them to fug it up.

Look at the bright side, at least the Panthers play in 2010 could make the play of Mike Teel look like Tom Brady.

Hidden

I've counted at least a half dozen people just in this thread who are completely unaware that the players were first locked out by the owners.

They were not. The union decertified at 5:00pm on a Friday, then the NFL locked the union out at mid-night of that day.

    • I really appreciate Bill explaining his methodology here because that gives interested parties a chance to try and recreate the results themselves. I believe that it's safe to assume that despite emphasis being placed on WRs that Chuba Hubbard is one of the Panthers' top-5 weapons. Considering targets, yardage, receptions, etc... Adam Thielen and Xavier Legette are also on the list. Jalen Coker's success might have snuck him in there as well. I can't draw a conclusion on who #5 is though. I've narrowed it down to Diontae Johnson, David Moore, Ja'Tavion Sanders, and possibly Rico Dowdle if they're taking into account his production for the Cowboys in 2024.
    • Unfortunately business is business especially when there are large sums of money on the table. Goes the same for player and ownership. Does not make it right either way.  Why would he not want to play for the niners? Closer to home with a team that has a chance of delivering a SB trophy.
    • I don’t know if it’s him bad mouthing his former situation in public or my pettiness but either way I’m not a fan. Dude was on playoff teams getting paid millions to entertain. I’m not better that because and I am better than that. You don’t bad mouth your former employer in public. Esp after getting over paid and two, poor little Russian baby didn’t get the playing spot he wanted. Rod had him exactly where is was supposed to be.  He had a mean lip check and did defend our players. Specifically the devils game around Christmas where is our Haula on his ass. Cool. Thank you. But don’t talk poo about us. Because it make you look like Haula.    “need to get as far away as possible”. fug off. Didn’t see Burnsy bad mouthing and his play dropped off too.    sorry, but Orlov doesn’t get a pass from me. See you twice a year…
